The station was established in 1912 and is one of the oldest Coast Guard stations in California. The Coast Guard currently operates nine vessels at the station including three helicopters, two small boats, and a pier. The station is staffed with deputies, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.
Pico Rivera, California is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It is located on the edge of the Inland Empire and it straddles both the city of Riverside and the unincorporated community of Ramona. The population was 9,828 at the 2010 census. Pico Rivera is part of ZIP Code 92334. Pico Rivera was founded by Spanish settlers in 1847 as Rancho Pico de la Providencia. The name comes from the hill on which it sat, "Pico" meaning peak or summit and "Rivera" meaning stream. Rancho Pico de la Providencia passed into Mexican hands in 1848, but remained part of English-speaking San Bernardino County until 1861 when Mexico gained independence from Spain. In 1881, there were only six houses in Pico Rivera; by 1890 there were over 1,000 people living here. As industry grew along with population growth throughout Southern California during this time period, businesses moved to new locations such as Del Mar and Corona Heights while older businesses closed their doors or merged with others within days or weeks. The first post office opened in 1886 and continued operation until 1907; then it became an annexed portion of Riverside proper. A fire destroyed most of what remained of Ramona in 1915 so no post office operated there again until 1933 when a new one was built on Fruitvale Avenue between Interstate 10 and SR 158 (now State Route 78). In 1924 PICO RIVERA park was established adjacent to Upland High School after a donation from Mrs John Wachtel who had also given land for a park near her home on Via Linda that still exists today just off I-10 Eastbound lanes near Banner Elk Avenue South east of SR 158 (Fruitvale Ave.). This parcel includes rolling forested hills bordered by streams with picnicking/sports opportunities available including tables tennis courts available for rent year round! Today this parcel forms much of the eastern border for City Park District #2 bounded by I-10 Westbound lanes upon reaching Banner Elk Drive southward where access begins to residential neighborhoods north past Airport Boulevard providing transportation choices away from downtown shopping districts
