The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) was one of the United States Navy's first and most successful destroyers. She was commissioned in 1945 and served in World War II as part of the Pacific Fleet before being decommissioned in 1951. Pico Rivera is a small city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2000 census. It is part of the larger San Diego metropolitan area. The name "Pico Rivera" comes from Spanish meaning "Peak," and refers to the elevation of the town above sea level. The first European settlers in Pico Rivera were Manuel Nieto and his wife María del Carmen Castro on February 2, 1827. They named their settlement after Peter Post, captain of HMS Topaze which sailed into San Diego Bay on July 14, 1769 during the Mexican–American War and landed at present-day Mission Valley. In 1881 Pico Rivera was incorporated as a town under the name Rancho Niguel de la Costa y PicoRivera (Rancho Costilla et al.). In 1923 it became an incorporated city with its own governing structure. On December 12, 1927, voters passed a measure to rename the community in honor of José Gomez Cabrillo who had perished while sailing during World War II off Japan's coast with his shipwrecked crewmates. That same year incorporation records show that the population of Pico Rivera had reached 488 residents when it merged with neighboring Carlsbad to form City Park (now known as North Park) on December 15th following a referendum vote by citizens there over whether or not to annex Carlsbad’s land for annexation purposes. On January 1st 1969 City Park/North Park merged with other nearby municipalities including Otay Mesa, La Jolla and Escondido creating what is now known as Imperial Beach/Pico Rivera Municipal District which included all but one block of present-day downtown PICO RIVERA; all activities currently taking place within that district are conducted through Imperial Beach Municipal Services Department corporation."

Pico Rivera is a small town in the county of San Bernardino, California. It is located on the east bank of the San Gabriel River, about 20 miles south-southwest of downtown Los Angeles and 30 miles northwest of Pasadena. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. The Pico Rivera area was first settled by Mexicans in 1847. They built homes along a bluff overlooking the river. In 1852, Englishman George Armstrong Custer and his cavalry unit were stopped at Pico Road by Mexican troops under General Antonio López de Santa Anna. A battle ensued which resulted in Custer's death and Santa Anna's capture; Pico Rivera residents took part in this conflict as well. In 1861, Californian Major John Blythe founded a citrus orchard here which became one of the largest and most successful American orange groves ever grown outside North America. By 1907, over 50% of all oranges grown in Southern California were produced here at Pico Rivera Estate Grove (now known as Oranges for All Mankind). During World War II, many local men volunteered to serve in the military; some became famous such as Roy Rogers and Dale Evans; others less well-known but highly decorated include First Lieutenant Don Thomas who served as scoutmaster for Company K1/6th Infantry Regiment during Operation Neptune Spear when it liberated Japan from Imperial Japanese forces on September 2nd 1945
