In 1915, the first post-war gift was a coffee pot from World War I veteran W. C. Beach. It was followed by a typewriter and paper clips in 1916, a phonograph player in 1917, and an electric saw in 1918. From 1919 to 1922, the donation jar for local families was filled with clothes, books, tools and appliances donated by soldiers stationed at Camp Pendleton (Pasadena). In 1925, donations started coming in from army troops stationed at Fort Ord (Ontario). The jar for local families became full so donations started coming in from all over California. In 1928, gifts were sent through the mail for the first time. The soldier’s name on each gift meant much to family members and friends who received them. By 1937 gifts had become regular occurrences during Christmas season and they were given out as thank-you's to family members or friends who had helped provide support during wartime times. By 1941 military donations had reached their peak with over 100 different items being collected monthly by the Red Cross Society of Piedmont County (Red Crescent Society of Pasadena). A special Thank YouJar was set up each month throughout 1941 in honor of those Military personnel who have supported our community through giving back then and now! The Post-War years were tough on many families but not on the Red Cross Society of Piedmont County which continued collecting military donations until 1954 when it merged into other organizations*. Piedmont is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 102,451 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Los Angeles County after Los Angeles and it covers an area of 113 square miles (291 km2). The immediate metropolitan area has a population of 514,078 people living in 865 ZIP codes. Piedmont began as two small towns: Pico Rivera and Montebello. In 1881, the town of Montebello merged with Pico Rivera to form one municipality. On January 1, 1889, the town of Pico Rivera became an independent city under the name of Monterey Park. On November 3rd, 1910 – just over 100 years ago – Pico Rivera annexed the neighboring village of Sunland Heights which had been part of what used to be called “Los Angeles”. By 1920 both villages were again separate municipalities but still part of county government; however Sunland Heights would become incorporated as a city on December 15th 1933 following annexation by Pasadena. In 1932–1934 Pasadena annexed all five municipalities that made up Monterey Park: Pico Rivera, Sunland Heights (now Pasadena), Monterrey Park (now Norwalk), West Hills (now Lynwood) and South Orange (now Gardena). These annexations formed what is now known as Pasadena’s Central District or “East Side”; while West Hills and South Orange became part of El Monte and Baldwin Hills respectively. Additionally Pomona was annexed by Pasadena on October 10th 1948 after its own annexation by Los Angeles County from San Bernardino County pursuant to Proposition 13 passed by voters in November 1966 – meaning Pomona would have been an officially incorporated city had it not been for Prop 13! The first comprehensive plan for Riverside/Pasadena was released in 1949 based on then current boundaries which included unincorporated areas east of Third Street between Riverside Boulevard/State Route 210 and Long Beach Boulevard/US 90; parts south of Third Street including Hesperia Village between First Street/US 91st Avenue and Second Street north thereof; parts east along Walker Road including easternmost portions beyond Interstate 405 within Dripping Springs Township; areas west along I-10 from US 59 north to Rancho Mirage Boulevard northwestward including portions within Chino Hills East Industrial Park adjacent to Chino Hills State College until those boundaries were modified effective February 1st 1959 when all those new areas were added back into Riverside & Pasadena Combined City Limits resultant in their present day western edge at First Avenue & Riverside Boulevard opposite Live Oak Avenue
