Army gift history in Pinole, California can be traced back to the late 1800s when the United States Army purchased land in what is now Pinole County. The army built a small town on these acres and called it Camp Grant. In 1942, the army transferred its headquarters from Fort Benning, Georgia to Camp Grant and changed the name of the town to Pinole. Today, the town has a population of just over 10,000 people and is home to many military installations including Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin. The first troops arrived inPinole on December 12, 1849. Major General John C. Fremont had been appointed Commander-in-Chief of all American forces in California during the Mexican War and was looking for soldiers to help garrison his new territory. He ordered Colonel James Fenton to lead an expedition into San Francisco Bay to recruit volunteers for service in California. Over 1,500 men volunteered and sailed from Portsmouth, England on June 3rd 1850 for America's newest colony at Monterey Peninsula. On January 6th 1851 Captain Augustus Thornton (a naval officer) reported that 2 companies of infantry under Lieutenant Colonel William Higginson were disembarking at Monterey Peninsula with stores and provisions for 7 weeks' operations against 5000 Mexicans who lived on nearby hills known as The Scrubbs. On February 15th Commodore Matthew Perry anchored off San Diego Island with his squadron of 5 warships carrying 3000 soldiers led by Commodore George Vancouver who landed them at Point Loma on March 8th 1851 after a three day journey across rugged coastline covered with PT Boat patrols waiting for Perry's arrival while marines bombarded The Scrubbs which they reached without resistance on April 4th 1851 The following year Commodore Perry again made an attemptlanding troops at Point Loma but this time there was no opposition from Mexican forces so he withdrew his ships until July when he received news that Mexico had Joined Spain in European War - this threw open Californias door to annexation by any nation who wanted it! Commodore Perry decided not try again until AFTER Mexico had withdrawn from war! This period saw many innovations within American military technology including: gunnery training facilities such as El Segundo Naval Arsenal; Infantry Infantry Regiment (1st battalion); Signal Corps; Medical Services With field hospitals such as Presidio Hospital; first use of aircraft carriers USS Constitution (1775), USS Enterprise (1868), USS Maine (1942) As well as numerous inventions like: automatic fire control systems; air raid shelters/command posts; machine guns etcetera making US military power no longer reliant upon European allies

The United States Army has a history in Pinole, California dating back to 1846. The first American military presence in the area was a small detachment of soldiers under the command of Captain James Folsom during the Mexican-American War. In 1847, U.S. General Winfield Scott ordered Major General Stephen Hinkle to establish an army post at San Francisco Bay for the defense of that city and its environs. This force included about 130 men and boys from Pinole Ridge Schoolhouse. In 1850, Captain George Armstrong Cranch stationed a battalion of cavalry at Pinole Ridge Schoolhouse for training future Confederate forces in guerrilla warfare against the United States government. From 1853 to 1861, there were two battalions (1st and 2nd) of infantry called "Cedar Battalion" stationed at San Francisco Bay Colony; these units were eventually absorbed into the regular U.S. Infantry corps during the Civil War. In 1865, after a three-year search, Commodore John Doolittle located anchored off Point Reyes Station on Marin County's coast what would become known as "Doolittle's Ear" Island when he discovered it while sailing along California's North Coast during Operation Neptune's Spear—the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941.—He named it after his Naval Intelligence officer who had investigated Japanese activity off California's west coast.— After World War II ended with Japan's surrender and its occupation of much of Asia including Okinawa Island—including Point Reyes Station—Doolittle donated part of his ownership interest in "Doolittle's Ear" Island to the University of Southern California for use as an academic research center.— USC acquired full ownership of "Doolitto’s Ear" Island on 1 October 1972.]
Pinole is a town located in the Central Valley of California. It is bordered by Modesto to the north, Redding to the east, and San Joaquin County to the south. According to The 2010 United States Census, Pinole has a population of 26,844. The ZIP code for Pinole is 95662. The first Europeans who visited this area were Spanish missionaries in 1769-1770. They named it Rancho del Arroyo de las Antillas (Rancho of the Antilles). Rancho del Arroyo was granted on November 7, 1848 to José Antonio Vargas and Francisco Sanchez. In 1853, Don Carlos Herrera patented an additional 825 acres (295 ha) in what is now Pinole township on October 15 of that year. This land included parts of present day Yucaipa and incorporated as part of Roseville on December 6, 1854. On February 14, 1861, there was a fire at Vinegar Hill which destroyed most of the buildings in Yucaipa Township including the A&P Store where Grover Cleveland had his office before becoming President in 1884-1885; also burning were four other stores within Yucaipa limits: One operated by Wm Hickey & Co., another by Jno Gorman & Sons and two by James Breen & Bros.. All structures but one burned down; all save these three stores still stand today according to county records. In 1865 Don Carlos Herrera donated an additional 432 acres (175 ha) adjoining his 1862 donation for $2 per acre ($0.50/ha), making total pinole ranching area 1,752 acres (665 ha). In 1893 Elisha Facundo pesada settled 10 families at Vallejo Creek west side within 12 miles or so of Pinole center after leaving his possessions in Yucaipa during Mexican war days when he thought American troops would not enter into peace negotiations without them being able to take possession of his lands back from Mexico! On January 16th 1890 David O'Brien along with over 100 men from Sutter's Mill started work building new homes just outside old mill site near current day intersection street name Vallejo Creek Rd./Highway 101 South
