The first European tosight Pinole was from an expedition led by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on November 20, 1542 when he became aware of a cluster of small islands lying off the coast of San Luis Obispo County. He named them "Isla de los Pinos" (The Island of Pines). On October 24, 1777 while Lieutenant Colonel James Ketchum's battalion lay siege to Monterey during the Mexican–American War at Palo Alto Hill, Captain Manuel Nieto's party sighted land extending into what is now Pinole Harbor on December 6th and called it Isla de las Palmas (Island of Palm trees). When news reached Spain that America had won her independence from Mexico they began to build up an fleet including some 26 vessels under Admiral Diego Rivera with orders to capture American ships if possible. Commodore George Vancouver sailed his flagship HMS Discovery along with his squadron on February 4th 1778 but failed to make landfall because bad weather prevented him from sailing due north as planned. On this day explorer Gabriel Moraga discovered two small coves about 10 miles southeast of present-day Pinole Cove which later became known as Kabachia Point National Monument and were named for José Joaquín del Toro y Valdés who explored them in 1822-1823 while serving as captain aboard HMS Beagle under British Surveyor General John Eustace Mullion;[1] thus Kabachia Point likely comes from Del Toro’s name for this area: “El Kabacho” meaning “the headland” or cape.] In 1861 local resident Simeon Hahn subdivided San Lorenzo Valley into three lots - one side Lots A and B being located near where current-day Shafter Road meets Pacific Highway 1 while Lots C and D are located further east betweencurrent-day Masonic Avenue and Kaweah Boulevard approximately 2 miles south of El Camino Real Cemetery; lot E lies just eastof Kaweah Boulevard between Masonic Avenue & Avenida Alameda.[2] In 1912 pinole alumna Mary Earle Battles served as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's personal secretary during her stay at Balboa Peninsula Naval Air Station near Carmel Valley; she also helped design White House gardens after returning home from her trip In 1922 young woman Norma McCourt married future Governor Ronald Reagan at Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church—named for their parents’ pioneer farmstead outside Lancasterburgh; Mrs. Reagan still officiates at services there today PINOLE CREEK – Although its surface water appears almost completely flat when viewedasonboard its course can be traced easterly over an intervening ridge which forms the eastern boundaryofthe watershed underlying muchofPINOLECreekand portionsofthe creek itselfare Actually Many Small Watercourses participatinginone large system

In 1876, Italian settlers discovered and began to grow coffee on what is now known as Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In 1875, while coffee was still a mainly agricultural product, two Dutchmen, Cornelis van den Bergh and Jan Swannik, founded the first coffee plantation in Java. The Berghs were later joined by their brother-in-law, J.B. van der Linden. Together they started to grow coffee beans in small plantations on the island of Java and soon became well known throughout the world for their quality beans. In 1886, they opened a large warehouse in Jakarta that allowed them to sell their beans all over the world. They also developed an export industry which allowed them to sell their products both domestically and abroad. In 1914 they sold off their business to a British company and retired from business altogether.

In 1916,pinole seceded from California and formed its own state called California (although it still uses Mexican characters in its official name).
