Pinole is a small city in southern California. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern side of San Francisco Bay and has a historic core that includes the former adobe town center and mission buildings dating back to 1846. Other attractions include: beaches, wineries, countryside and an active naval base. The city's name comes from "Pinole" which means "island" in Spanish. The first inhabitants of what is now Pinole were Native American people who lived there for centuries before white settlers arrived in the late 1800s. In 1846, Mission San Antonio de Padua was founded here by Franciscans under the leadership of Father Junípero Serra and became one of California's first missions. As part of their efforts to Christianize indigenous peoples living along the coast,missionaries built churches and schools as well as roads and bridges throughout what is now Pinole County. Many early citizens were veterans of World War II who came to rebuild after the devastation caused by Japanese-American internment during 1939-1945. After World War II ended,pinole experienced rapid growth as new residents moved in seeking opportunities in a booming technology industry and post-war military build-up that continued until the early 2000s when it began to decline due to EDITION III housing prices outpacing local real estate values statewide In recent years pinole has seen some redevelopment with mixed results with many Iconic buildings such as downtown hallmark theater closedtered while luxury apartments have replaced most businesses open since then including several banks once located within walking distance of downtown but no longer exist today due to high rates for rent/property values combined with lack of interest from visitors or developers . PINOLE CITY HISTORY (1846 - 2010) During its time as part of California’s Missions District – originally area bounded by present day Willow Creek Road (east), Highway 101 (west), Interstate 5 (south), BART station lot east off I-5 south), Mission San Antonio de Padua was one of eight missions established across Alta California between 1769 AD and 1821 AD It took sixty years for padre Junípero Serra’s group – consisting mostly volunteer soldiers –to bring Christianity to all these tribes living southwestward near Point Conception beyond Mariposa Pass through Angel Island on Nov 15th 1846 according To Father José Altieri diary entry “…the entire mission roster had assembled at Our Lady’s mission house where we dismounted our horses because there would be no other place for them except on shore; we walked about three miles inland past hills covered with brush towards an opening in this rocky hill called Punta Arenas [sic] where they erected two stone houses which served as our chapel; inside these two houses were 60 Fathers, 30 unmarried lay brothers plus 20 married lay sisters also staying here….we spent every evening going out into these villages meeting with their chiefs who received us very politely because they knew we held nothing against them….or so I thought!” Some 20 years later another priest wrote “We found it difficult even getting water from wells let alone baptizing natives so much less teaching them Christianity; however they did convert some despite our best efforts….. We baptized 624 individuals during this period……our failure notwithstanding Father Junípero himself considered himself quite satisfied with his work here…… By 1850 about 400 native males had been baptized although not all returned home because Of smallpox outbreaks among them followed by conversionBack East where several hundred more natives assimilatedalbeit without success………….. At last count there were 1123 native males residing within Mission District including 179 men over age 10……………………………………………………………………………………………………….. From 1851 until 1860 only 16 secular priests served missions assigned jurisdiction over areas extending into Sonoma County including point beyond Carquinez Strait unto Pillar Rock etc., making total number 9 clerics…………….. In 1861 following Mexican America War US Army General John C Fremont ordered all 7000 civilian employees at Presidio stop working December 1st 1861 effective January 2nd 1862 due To budget cuts Due To increasing Indian hostilities against British forces He ordered military garrison be reduced from 400 troops per month down to 25 troops per month And also increased patrols around Presidio perimeter instead Of just horseback riders So Mission San Antonio de Padua became attached barracks known today simply as Barracks #2

Pinole is a town in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. It was founded by Mexican settlers in 1836 as part of the Rancho Pinole Mexican land grant. The name comes from the Spanish word "pinyon" which means small pine tree. The town's first post office opened in 1838. In 1916, it became an incorporated municipality and has since grown to a population of over 115,000 people. The history of Pinole goes back to the early 1800s when Mexican settlers arrived in this area seeking new land grants and ranchos. One such settler, José María de la Cañada, named his new community after a small pine tree he saw on his property near modern-day Pinole City. La Cañada's heirs sold their holdings to other pioneers in 1836 and began building cabins and homes around what would become known as downtown Pinole. By 1840, 150 residents lived in what is now downtown Pinole; most were day laborers working on local farms or ranches that had been granted to Mexico by Ulysses S. Grant during the Gadsden Purchase of 1861. On December 12, 1860, two days after Texas seceded from the United States and formed its own government under Confederate General Robert Easley Johnston (the brother of Ulysses S.), American forces invaded southern California through Santa Clara Valley using Port Isabel Road as their route southwestward across Southern California towards Bakersfield and points northward including Sacramento before turning inland again for about 20 miles (32 kilometers) at present-day Murrieta before reaching Central Valley via Highway 1 south of present-day Fillmore Lake where they reached Johnston's forces encamped at Fort Tejon on January 17th 61 while supplies were being unloaded aboard USS Constitution (1863), USS New York (1865), USS Monitor (1868) and USS Olympia (1870). On February 2nd 1861 American forces burned down La Cañada Adobe house #1 due to lack of food rationing then moved into buildings located between Adobe House #2 & #3 which still stand today with evidence that cannonballs impacted these structures killing many residents during the battle for control over this portion of San Luis Obispo County during America’s War for Independence against Spain! On April Fool’s Day 1865 Commodore James Worthy sailed his ship “SS Tacoma” into San Francisco Bay off Alameda Point with orders from President Abraham Lincoln ordering all citizens of California except those living on missions/estates within three miles east or westof Mare Island Naval Shipyard free accordingly!! The townspeople responded by gathering wood inside city limits whereupon Commodore Worthy ordered his cannons brought ashore onto Market Street just outside city limits!!!! As you can see there was much laughter throughout our great state due to events taking place at Alameda Point that day!!!!! PINOLE - A STORYTELLING CITY
Pinole was founded in 1849 by Captain George Hearn and his wife, Ann. At its peak, Pinole had a population of around 1,500 people. The town slowly declined over the next few decades as new settlement sprang up inland. In the early 20th century, Pinole was known for its fruit trees and distinction as a center for citrus production. However, the industry collapsed during World War II and pinole's population dwindled further until it stopped altogether in the 1960s.
