In 1884, the California Army and Navy Department was created by Governor George K. Brown with a goal of creating an organized military in the state. The first unit, the 1st Battalion of Infantry, was formed on December 15th, 1884 at Fort Goodwin. The battalion served throughout most of the American Civil War as part of the California Volunteers Infantry Regiment. The 1st Battalion served for eleven months in Richmond before being mustered out on October 17th, 1865. After their service in the Civil War, some soldiers from this battalion migrated to Pittsburg where they founded the First Presbyterian Church on July 21st, 1886. This church is still playing a major role in Pittsburg’s community today. After World War I ended and America gained its independence, many soldiers returned home to find their draft boards had been set up again. Some decided to stay and fight another day while others chose to return home and start new lives back in their old hometowns. However, many soldiers who had fought during World War I never found peace until they finally retired from the military or moved away from America altogether. Some of these returning veterans decided that it would be a good idea to donate their uniforms and equipment to local schools or other organizations which could use them for classroom use or field demonstrations purposes. In 1933-1934 two battalions (the 2nd Battalion) of troops from Pittsburg donated all their uniforms and equipment along with rifles and pistols to San Francisco Military Academy for use as cadets there during summer term 1934-35 under then Superintendent Captain John Larkin (1880-1966). It should be noted that these donations were not made lightly - it was clear that these units knew what they were giving back and wanted nothing more than helping those who needed it most! Over time more battalions have come together here at Pittsburg AFB through donations by various members of society such as business owners/managers/etc., but no single event has really brought all our Troops together like when we became partners with Seventh Air Force Base back in 2003!!!

The Army of the United States was organized in 1846. The first unit to be raised in Pittsburg was the 1st Cavalry Regiment, which arrived on October 26, 1846. The regiment served with distinction during the Mexican-American War and in the Oregon campaign. When California became a state in 1850, the 1st Cavalry Regiment was redesignated as the 2nd California Infantry Regiment. In 1853, the regiment also served in what is known as the Diamondback Expedition under General Don Carlos principal command. On December 12th of that year, he led his force across Utah Lake at Bear River Canyon into present-day Arizona where they destroyed an entire Apache village; this event is often considered one of America's most notable military accomplishment ever accomplished by its forces. After three years service with distinction within California's militia system and two years deployments with General Fremont's army to fight Indians on the American side of The Alamo Campaign (1857), returned to Pittsburg in 1861 as part of Walker's brigade commanded by Major-General George Bancroft Halleck for duty within Confederate States Army during The American Civil War With Union troops moving eastward from Missouri into Kentucky and Tennessee during 1862-63, Patton’s brigade moved westward downriver along Cumberland River to Battle Creek Bridge on September 15th 1863 against Confederate cavalry under Brigadier General Archibald McAllister thickly deployed around that town below it; after several hours’ fighting including some severe artillery fire exchange between brigades resulting in no Union loss but heavy casualties for both sides Patton ordered an withdrawal back upriver without losing any men killed or wounded – a daring move that successfully ended one of Confederate cavalry’s most successful operations against Ulysses S Grant’s army thus demonstrating once again how well Patton could lead his men when called upon
Pittsburg is a small city located in San Joaquin County, California. The population was only 3,191 at the 2010 census. Pittsburg's economy is based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city has a large agricultural area that includes Cowlitz Valley and most of the southern end of the Kern River valley. Pittsburg was founded by George Eastman in 1868 as a small town on what is now the eastern side of downtown Pittsburg. It became an incorporated city in 1912. Pittsburg is one of the few cities in California without a airport - it has an airfield located just east of downtown which is used for military purposes only. Pittsburg's history can be traced back to 1868 when George Eastman founded the town of Pittsburg on land he had purchased from Mission San Juan Capistrano (now part of Fremont). In 1912, Pittsburg incorporated as an incorporated city under the name "Pittsburg". At its peak, Pittburgh had a population of over 30,000 people and employed over 100 local workers in industry and services such as banking, transportation, education, health care, and retail trade. However, during World War II there were no civilian or military populations larger than 2% of all residents due to wartime restrictions placed upon Californians by then-Governor Earl Warren. As a result of this policy change - which limited residential growth to two percent per year - much decline occurred throughout most aging American populated areas following 1945; however, Pittburgh experienced modest increases in population through 2000 before declining again overall until 2007 when it reached its current size (-3 %) because births outstripped deaths by 1%.Today's economic base remains principally agriculture with some light Manufacturing activity but also includes services such as software development and web design firms

Pittsburg is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Pittsburg is located on the southern edge of Kern County and is bordered by the towns of Bakersfield to the east, Visalia to the south, and Saugus to the west. The name "Pittsburg" is thought to be derived from two Sitka Kaiwetiltsi words: "pitts" meaning place where goods were sold and "spurts" meaning sharp rocks or points out of which water could be drawn for irrigation purposes. In 1847, James Fenton and his brother-in-law George Stephenson founded what would become PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric) in Pittsburg after being inspired by an 1846 advertisement from Brigham Young for a new generation of Americans who could build electricity generators. In 1944, when World War II began, General Electric Company (GE) built a power plant in Pittsburg as part of its effort to expand production around the world during wartime. The plant produced more than 2 million horsepower until it was shut down in 1951 due to competition from Westinghouse Electric Company's newly opened nuclear plants. In 1957, GE merged with American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). At that time Pittsburg became part of AT&T's Southern California Service Area (SCSA), one of five areas within AT&T's nationwide structure that allowed private companies access to Bell System resources while patriotic efforts supported by federal government subsidized telephone service were developed across America. After years of growth and investment by both GE and AT&T in telecommunications technology throughout Southern California through their SCSA structures; deregulation occurred on October 15th 1990 when Pacific Gas & Electric Corporation was formed as an independent public company with monopoly rights over gas services throughout Kern County under common ownership with other local utility companies including Southern California Edison Company (SCE), Municipal Utilities District No. 9 mandated by state regulation pursuant to Proposition 66 referendum passed November 8th 1988; prior thereto all privately held telephone service providers had been placed into franchises granted unto public utilities thereby allowing competitive forces/market forces responsible for quality assurance/efficiency improvement leading ultimately alsoto lower rates paid relative historical averages plus immediate benefits associated therewith given rate increases generally approved subject thereto notwithstanding any protestations against such increase requests notwithstanding any protests occurring subsequent thereto; this event effectively eliminated all remaining restrictions on private enterprise access resultant in dramatic price hikes ensuing primarily from deregulation although previously similar hikes might have resulted had certain limited competition remained extant particularly regional cable operators characterizing post- deregulation prices as unconscionable levels causing numerous customer boycotts or industrial action) . In 2012 GEO Group acquired majority control over SCE providing them with exclusive local authority over San Bernardino County including Pittsburg effective January 1st 2013 Although prior thereto GEO Group had served as minority partner holding approximately 50% interest therein
