It was called The Roasterie and its roasters included John Peet, Harry Baerlein, George A. Smith, and others. Over time other businesses cropped up in town such as The Grapesvine Cafeteria (1910), The Golden Penny Arcade (1915), Old Soldiers' Home (1918), and Mrs. Potter's Store (1920). The early 1900s were a time when Pittsburg was home to some of the most important coffee beansmasters in America. These guys were responsible for creating some of the world's finest Arabica beans. Some of these pioneers include Julius Kappeler from Germany who roasted beans at The Grapesvine Cafeteria from 1915-1920; Angelo Ramos from Mexico City who roasted beans at Mrs. Potter's store from 1920-1925; Benno Schwarzwald from Switzerland who roasted beans at Old Soldiers' Home from 1923-1945; and Emanuel Leonecchi from Italy who roasted beans at Mrs., Potter's store from 1925-1930. During World War II, many talented local businessmen turned their skills to helping make war bonds while they worked in their spare time during peacetime hours at their respective businesses or else they volunteered with military units or went into active duty during the war years themselves! Many Local Men Of Color took this opportunity to gain experience with different aspects of war production before returning home afterwards - providing valuable perspectives for future generations! After World War II ended, many of the original industry veterans decided it was time to sell their business holdings and move on - but not everyone did! Some stayed behind to keep operational buildings open like Mr.'s Store which continued servingbagsels until 1974 (!); Solomon Zeitlinger's Sons which operated until 1984; Bob & Cheryl Weisman's Hardware which continued operating until 1998; Donny & Kathy Shea's Restaurant which operated until 2004; Dick Hoffman BBQ where burgers continue being made nightly now since 1978 (!); Joe Cavanaugh Jr.'s Laundry where clothes continue being laundered every day since 1978 (!); Bob Foley & his lawnmower operation located next door ('til today) - oh how those days felt! And lastly but definitely not least - Danny Meyer's restaurants which have been open since 1977!!!
