Many of these Italians started their own cafes and restaurants that served a wide variety of coffeehouse favorites like espresso, cappuccino, and macchiato. By the mid-1920s, gourmet coffee had become a popular commodity in California and was being sold at upscale hotels and restaurants. In the 1970s, interest in gourmet coffee shifted from Italy to South America. This change was due to two factors: first, Argentina was then becoming increasingly known for its high quality coffee beans; second, Argentine entrepreneurs started importing European-style espresso machines into Argentina in order to make better espresso drinks than those found on home soil. In 1984, Argentinian entrepreneur Lorenzo Bregazzi opened his first Café de los Andes Gourmet Coffee House in downtown Placentia. The café quickly became well known for its unique flavor profile and excellent cup of java. Throughout the years there have been numerous other successful café owners throughout California such as Donny D’Angelo (the founder of Donny’s Pizza), Angelo Badalamenti (owner of Joe’s Cafe), Mario Batali (who founded Il Mulino restaurant), Saul Teuichi (founder of Teuichi’s Coffee & Tea), Roland Martin (owner of Martin's Cafeteria) and more. These businesses helped contribute to what is now considered one of the most vibrant food scenes in Northern California.

Placentia is a small town located in Inyo County, California, in the northwestern corner of the state. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sierra Vista–Chimney Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was first established as a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route in 1858. A post office was established in 1859, and by 1863 it had become an agricultural center with a market and hotel. By 1865 Placentia had also developed into a small city with its own water system. In 1886, Placentia became one of three townships within Inyo County to be created from parts of Ohlone Village south of San Francisco Bay. The other two townships were North San Diego and South San Diego; Placentia would remain an unincorporated town until 1932 when it join with North San Diego to form Inyo County's fourth county seat, Ukiah. The Town Center shopping mall was built in 1984 and anchors the heart of town near Interstate 5 and U.S Route 395

Placentia, California was founded in 1846 by Captain John C. Fremont and his men as the first permanent settlement in what is now Southern California. The town developed around a small naval shipyard and harbor, and soon became a major center of trade and industry in the region. In the 1850s, Placentia experienced rapid growth as a result of its strategic location on the northwestern coast of Mexico City - just across the border from San Diego - and its role as a transportation hub for goods moving between both countries. By 1870, Placentia had become one of the most important cities in southern California. The city's prosperity waned during the late 19th century as manufacturing jobs left for other parts of America. However, Placentia continued to grow steadily through the 20th century until it reached its peak population size in 1960. At that point, Placentia began to decline due to increasing social costs associated with large towns such as Los Angeles and Santa Ana. However, recent efforts by Mayor Art Agostinelli to revive the city have been successful at reversing some of these trends and supportplans are currently under way to keep Placentia growing into the future.
The first permanent European settlers in Placentia, California were the Huguenots who arrived in 1769. In 1821, the United States purchased Rancho Cucamonga from Manuel Nieto and named it after General Mariano Diaz who died in 1824. The land was used for grazing until it was patented to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1846. The town of Placentia began to form around this time with a few homes built and some businesses started. In 1861, the San Gabriel Valley Railroad was built through Placentia and soon there were large numbers of people living here. By 1915, the town had more than 3,000 residents and many businesses had been established.
