Placentia, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 3,715 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Joaquin Valley. The first post office in Placentia was established on July 15, 1875. The name was changed to Placerville on December 12, 1877. On February 14, 1888, Placentia incorporated as a city and renamed itself after Placerville Township in Ontario County, New York. On May 17, 1915 the city lost its charter and became an unincorporated community again. On January 1st of each year since 1907 (except for 1924), residents have voted to change the town’s name to “Pleasanton” in order to better reflect their current location within Kern County and statewide appellation as part of the Pleasanton Bay Area region within Northern California. As of 2018 there are no plans for another vote and Pleasanton remains an unincorporated community located within Kern County
