The area that is now Placentia was first populated by Native Americans and later became part of Spanish California. At some point, a military garrison was established in what is now Placentia. In 1821, the United States government granted land to the town of Placentia for development as a farming community. The first post office in Placentia opened in 1827. By 1861, when California became an independent state, there were six military posts operating out of town: Fort Point at present-day downtown Placentia; Fort Younty at present-day Yountville; Fort Irwin at present-day Carlsbad; Camp Bradford on Rancho San Rafael nearpresent-day Lodi; and Camp Stevenson on Goleta Creek nearpresent-day Downey. In 1869, President Ulysses S. Grant awarded $5,000 toplacer County for the erection of a public school system within its boundaries. This money was used to build Santa Paula School (later Don José High School) on West Main Street in downtown Placentia. A new post office building was built adjacent to this school in 1892 and named after Drs. Augustus Chandler and Anna Kapp Chandler (1821-1912), pioneers associated withPlacental Hospital & Medical College which stood on East Broadway until it burned down in 1925). In 1907, World War I began and American troops arrived in Southern California as part of General Pershing’s First Corps of World War I forces commanded by Major General John J Pershing Jr.. On October 8th placer County residents organized themselves into “ patriotic militia companies” under command of Captains James Wetherbee (20 Mar 1911 – 5 Apr 1918), Frank Hinson (6 Jul 1914 – 21 Dec 1945)and Willis Pyle (4 Sep 1917 – 10 Jun 1948). These men enlisted for one year duration beginning Oct 8th 1907 through Jan 15th 1908 inclusive then returned home prior to reenlisting again Aug 1st 1909 effective date…. AfterWorld War I ended these men continued service thru Mid 1920’s….. From 1918 until 1949 there were no hostilities between America and Europe…. In Jan 1949 Captain Willis Pyle resigned his commission from US Marine Corp Reserve after 30 years active duty service while living off grid….. Captain Williampyle died Nov 3rd 1949″

Placentia, California is a small town in Kern County, California. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and adjacent to Bakersfield. The name " Placentia" comes from Latin word "praesentia." When Spanish explorers visited this area in 1642 they named it San Francisco de la Placencia because of its location near present-day downtown Bakersfield. In 1836, Captain John C. Fremont anchored his ship off the coast of what is now Placentia and discovered an abundant oil field around what he called "Fresno Island." The town began to grow rapidly as oil production increased and many people came to live here. The first post office was established in 1851. In 1862, Ayer Company built a mill on the south side oftown and soon other businesses followed suit. By 1880 there were over 100 businesses in town including stores, hotels, restaurants, mills, churches and schools. A new courthouse was built in 1894 which became the precursor to today's Courthouse Square development downtownBakersfield During World War II Placentia played an important role as a munitions manufacturing center due to its position on the Pacific Coast Highway just east of Interstate 5 where many battles took place such as Saipan (1938), Midway Atoll ( 1942), Leyte Gulf ( 1944) and Okinawa ( 1945). After the war much of the industry moved away but some remains such as Nucor Corporation's main plant which manufactured reactors for nuclear power plants until it closed in 1993 TodayPlacentia boasts a variety of shops and restaurants which are all within walking distance from each other making it easy for residents to get their favorite foods when they need them most . Placentia, California is a small town in the Sonoma County region of Northern California. It was founded in 1853 by Captain John Fenton and his wife, Lucy Fairfax Fenton. The name comes from the Latin word placenter, meaning "place of birth." The town has a population of approximately 10,000 people as of 2018. The first permanent settler in Placentia was Capt. John Fenton and his wife Lucy Fairfax-Fenton who came overland from Illinois on horseback in 1853. They landed at what is now called West Point Marina on February 8th,1853. After landing they built a cabin on what is now the banks of the creek that flows through town. On February 22nd Capten John and MrsFenton had their first child Gabrielle born to them at this location. In 1874 Capten Fenton died leaving behind four children: Lillie (born 1865), Robert (born 1870), Hilda (born 1875) and Josephine (born 1880). His widow continued to live in Placentia until her death in 1902 when she was 82 years old. On October 15th 1873 Placentia became part of Santa Clara County after it was split off from County Of Monterey On November 6th 1850 US 41 entered into Santa Clara County between Glenn Heights to the north and Post Office Beach to the south forming today's downtown area which is bounded by First Street east, Middle Street west, McClaren Avenue south and Third Street north
In 1853, when the first post office opened in Placentia, California, it was a small town of around seventy-five people. By 1860, the population had grown to over one hundred and fifty. In 1897, the city of Placentia was incorporated as a city and by 1907 had reached its current size of nearly two thousand residents. The industry that once drove Placentia's growth has since disappeared but its legacy is still felt today in the city's economy. One such industry is manufacturing which has shifted from local production to countries such as China and Mexico.
