The United States Navy has been deployed in support of Operation Neptune's Spear since the early 1960s. The deployments have included both large and small contingents, with a recent history that includes sending Christmas gifts to members of the Royal Thai Army. Navy gifts are not limited to just material goods such as clothing or toys. In addition to mementos from deployments, submariners often send items such as books and music cassettes. These sends come in different forms, but all share one common goal: giving back to those who have supported our country during wartime. Dog Tags are often given as presents to loved ones while shipmates wait at home for news of their loved ones' safety or return home after a long mission. This year, December 14th marks the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and Placentia will be hosting their own commemoration ceremonies along with events throughout the city honoring those who served and died in that conflict. Placentia, California is a small town in the East Bay region of San Francisco, California. It is located on the eastern edge of Contra Costa County and has a population of about 12,000. The name Placentia is derived from a Native American word meaning "place where the womans milk was found." As early as 1853 Placentia had two hotels and ten post offices. In 1865 it became part of the city of Oakland. By 1894 it had five churches and over 100 residents. Its importance declined gradually until around 1920 when its population peaked at 1,500. It lost most of its significance after that time but has since regained some prominence as an agricultural center with a large population of dairy cows and pigs. The town developed around an old cheese factory which was converted into a hog farm in 1892-1893 by J.P. Morgan & Company for their subsidiary White Star Cheese Factory No. 2 (now known as Dean Foods). After World War I Placentia began to grow again due to new development in nearby Concord and Walnut Creek; during this time Placentia also became home to one of America's first air raid shelters, built in 1941 by the United States government as part of maneuvers being staged at or near Camp Pendleton (). In 1980s placentians started moving away from their farming roots in favor of more urban lifestyles; however, recent growth has brought back much nostalgia for those earlier days (). Today Placentia enjoys significant tourist attractions including its restored cheese factory tour (available every day except Saturday), its wide variety of antique shops and galleries, its farmers market each Wednesday morning throughout the summertime, and its original plank fence surrounding the town square complete with replica cannons dating back to 1776

Placentia, California is located in the heart of the Silicon Valley and has been an important center for technology since its foundation in 1891. The city was founded by farmers who brought over a fence from Mexico to sell their crops to East Bay entrepreneurs. In 1911, Placentia became the first city in California to have electric lights. The city grew rapidly during World War II as San Francisco's largest port and home to many military aircraft plants. However, during the late 1940s and early 1950s, Placentia experienced a decline in population due to high levels of crime and poverty. Today, Placentia is a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to its historically rich history.
On December 9, 1846, the California Gold Rush began when prospectors discovered gold in the Sacramento Valley. The first permanent settlement was made on October 16, 1849 by Juan Bautista Alvarado and his brother Miguel Alvarado. The town of Placentia was founded on the site of present-day Placentia (now part of Redding) and named for the small island off the coast of San Francisco which they named "Isla de placentia". The first post office in Placentia opened in 1851. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in Placentia. On July 7, 1880, a tornado touched down near Placentia and damaged many homes and businesses. The town rebuilt quickly with help from government officials and private donors. In 1909, an earthquakehit Placentia killing four people and leaving more than 50 injured. In 1937, two tornadoes struck the area; one killed three people and caused extensive damage to buildings including a hotel that still stands today. In 1957, a large fire destroyed most of downtown Placentia but soon organized efforts led to reconstruction that continued until 1995. In 1985, a severe storm hit central California causing extensive damage across much of Southern California including parts of Placeti
