The cafe closed again in 2003 but reopened as the Slattery Bakery & Cafe later that year after being purchased by Bob Stroud's Restaurant Group LLC.

Placentia is a town in Kern County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 9,032. The name is from Latin for "birthplace" or "homesickness." The first Europeans to visit what is now Placentia were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his crew on their way from Mexico City to Santa Fe on October 20, 1769. They landed at Palos Verdes Peninsula and named it San Miguel de la Vega after Padres Francisco de Monterey and Diego Rivera who had founded missions there in 1821. The early history of Placentia can be traced back to 1827 when Isabella Sanchez Hidalgo married José Joaquín Baja y Salinas, one of the founders of Pueblo Viejo (later Placentia), which lay adjacent to Rancho San Felipe on present-day Downtown Los Angeles. Jose Joaquin was already an owner or trustee of Rancho San Felipe when he married Isabella Sanchez Hidalgo; she also was an owner of Rancho Lomas de las Nieves in central California. In 1865, José Antonio Ramos purchased land east of downtown from Alta California Land Co., making him one of the original settlers in what would become Placentia. He erected the first home in what is now North Park Avenue and platted out lots around it between 1868 and 1870. Ramos operated a grocery store and post office near his home until his death in 1907 at age 93 years old. With its incorporation as a city on January 15, 1912 following passage by voters of Proposition 8 (a measure supporting annexation by Los Angeles), Placentia quickly became one of Southern Californias most active cities with many economic opportunities due to its location at the crossroads of several important transportation arteries including Route 66 and Interstate 5 freeways. In 1954 City Hall moved from its original building located at First Street/Hollywood Boulevard to Fourth Street/AlamedaStreet within easy walking distance both northbound and southbound arterials I-5 then I-10 eastbound & westbound concourses respectively only a few blocks away! This move eliminated any need for streetcars servicing all six precincts as service ceased upon arrival onto new arterials through downtown streets! Many aspects associated with postwar American culture - popular flicks such as “Dracula” (1931) being filmed here; rock 'n' roll being born here; Herb Alpert starting PLACE Records here; Harry Belafonte having his final performance—all took place during this time period while downtown business continued to grow…the city skyline gradually changed character becoming more modernized with numerous highrise developments taking hold throughout much later decades culminating in major redevelopment projects...Today remnants remain including several large movie theaters that have been converted into residential uses... Historic plazas such as Plaza Mayor sit vacant today but are potentially restoration targets for future revitalization purposes if undertaken under auspicesof appropriate agencies
