Placerville, California is a small town located in Trinity County, California. The population was 2,746 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first Europeans to visit Placerville were the Spanish in 1824 and they named it "Placeros" after one of their Rancho Gold Mines. At first there was only a single cabin near where Placerville now stands and this was used by the surveyors who surveyed the area for ranchos that would be granted to American citizens on Manifest Destiny land grants from President Ulysses S. Grant in 1848. In 1875, when Congress created Los Angeles County, Placerville became its seat and began to grow rapidly with new subdivisions being built until 1915 when the US military built Camp Roberts which left behind an unpaved street called Camp Roberts Road today known as Main Street. In 1916-1917, during World War I, Placerville was bombed by German bombers and suffered heavy damage but still continued to grow with new subdivisions being built until 1945 when we again experienced growth with an influx of immigrants who arrived during World War II: Japanese Americans (later known as Koreatown), Italian Americans (later known as FilipinoAmericans), Koreans and Vietnamese people who had fled communism in their countries of origin. The post-war years were tough for many small towns throughout America due to high unemployment rates which led some people to move away from smaller towns seeking opportunities in larger cities or suburbs but not so with Placerville; over time it slowly regained its lost residents and businesses while continuing to maintain its unique character as a small town that values community service above all else In recent years there have been efforts made by both local government officials and business owners within the town limitsto preserve much of what makes Placerville special such as its strong history culture which has kept it thriving despite competition from larger cities like San Francisco or Oakland; however many challenges remain including long commute times into downtown San Francisco or Oakland making it difficult for residents to enjoy quality life within these large metropolitan areas while also maintaining a sense of community tie that helps keep things funtown wide
