Placerville is an unincorporated community located in Mono County, California. It lies on the east side of State Route 62, about northwest of Mammoth Lakes. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Placerville were Spanish Franciscans who traveled through this area in 1642. A mission village was established here in 1837 by Father José de Alvarado and Santa Clara missionaries under the auspices of the Mexican government. In 1851, a group of United States citizens who had purchased Rancho San Rafael were granted land east of Mono Lake by Governor Manuel Francisco soldiery governor platted it into townships named after General James Hovey (George Washington), Commodore John Doolittle (1811-1877), and Major George Wigglesworth (1775-1838). Hovey's townships ran from north to south with San Rafael lying between them on their eastern border; Doolittle's township stretched from east to west; Wigglesworth's extended from north to south. Doolittle’s townships became Placerville when they were combined with those of Hovey and Wigglesworth in 1865. The name honor local hero General James Hovey for leading Ulysses S. Grant’s army against Mexico during the American Civil War at Palo Alto Creek Valley near present day Monterey/Anaheim Airport BART Station on April 8, 1847 as part of his reconnaissance expedition known as “the dash up Benicia Pass” which aimed to identify a possible route over mountains linking Los Angeles and Sacramento City proper

Soon afterwards, other Europeans began to explore Java, including Giovanni Battista Cabrini who named Borneo after his own home country of Italy but found no cocoa trees there. In 1802, Danish explorer Christian Wilhelm Hinrichs explored Java from Riau on Mindanao Island and discovered java pepper (Cinnamomum × lanatus) which he called “Java” because it was found near Durenang on Sulawesi Island. By 1807, Dutch traders had started trading with China based on this new discovery and by 1810 they had caught up with Hinrichs who sailed back toDutch East Indies to report their findings to his father-in-law, King Willem IV of Holland. The first publishings about coffee were in English language journals in 1815 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte de La Mole along with sketches of Indonesia by Captain James Cook during his third voyage aboard HM ships Endeavour and Discovery in 1788-89). In 1865, when Samuel Morse developed radio technology he realized that sound waves could be transmitted over long distances using wires carrying electricity instead of water or animals walking between masts like prior methods did at that time! This allowed him to send messages like "Doodlebug" over distance without anyone receiving it! Samuel Morse quickly invented telephone technology too so this all came together for him!

Placerville is a small community located in the Central Valley of California. Founded in 1877 by Mormons, it became an agricultural town after being granted a reservation on the Rancho El Centro Mexican land grant. The Mormon church moved out of Placerville in 1902 and the town was abandoned for many years until it was rediscovered during the late 1800s and revival of interest in American Indian culture led to its return. Today, Placerville is a thriving small town with a rich history that can be found throughout its neighborhoods and businesses. Placerville began as a Mormon settlement on Rancho El Centro Mexican land grant which had been reserved for them by U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in 1862 due to their location near Bakersfield and Chico, both important centers of Mormonism at that time. The LDS Church first vacated Placerville in 1902 after abandoning Nauvoo, Illinois due to animosity toward them from other Mormons there following the Second Utah War (1859-1861). After relocating to Salt Lake City, they resumed activities here including founding The Sunday School Magazine, serving as president of Brigham Young University’s Ecclesiastical Department from 1903-1968, and serving as bishopric general for the LDS Church’s Western States Mission from 1909-1911. In 1916 they also founded what would become known as BYU’s Agricultural College (later renamed Agricultural University), which still operates today as one of PLACVERTs top employers. The early days of PLACVILLE were times of great experimentation by missionaries who wanted to see if farming could be adapted successfully to this new region where rainfall was scarce and irrigation was difficult. Some interesting findings included: plowing with oxen five miles downgradient; planting cotton two feet deep; building dams 25 feet high; draining swampy areas around villages; cultivating maize 3 feet deep with manzanita scrubber vines reaching 4 meters above ground level; cultivating potatoes 6 inches deep with dandelions up to 12 inches long! In 1886 when Congress passed the Tahoe Act which opened up much more territory for ranching in California, PLACVERTZY received news that their allotment on Rancho El Centro Mexican land had been sold! They quickly started looking for another place to settle but were unsuccessful because there were already so many settlements within sight along Highway 99W between Sacramento and Needles (now Hearst Castle). Finally they decided upon trying again under British explorer John Cranch Rodea's leadership who had recently reached North America via Panama Canal before sailing south through the Isthmus Of Panama into California estuary where he met General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna while exploring Mono Lake adjacent to present day San Diego County. After meeting himRodea set about finding new sites for his people but no decisions were made until 1899 when he proposed setting up homes along what are now Hwy 101E & Hwy 9W just east of White Sands National Monument! This site became known as "PLACVERTZY Hill", later shortened simply "Hillsboro" although some residents continue using Platezity name even though it only refers back 2 miles north past Ptarmigan Creek Rd onto CR 129N - approximately where US 90A turns west towards Escondido
Placerville was founded by George W. Placerville in 1838 as a small settlement on the south bank of the Sacramento River. The town grew rapidly, and by 1860 it had a population of over 1,000 people. By 1870, Placerville had become an important stop on the railroad system, and it became a center for business and culture. In 1912, Placerville was incorporated as a city. The city experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century, but World War II caused its economy to decline. In the 1990s, however, Placerville began to experience resurgent growth thanks to new economic opportunities and initiatives from Mayor Skip Heaston. Today, Placerville is one of California's most vibrant communities with a rich history that continues to be impactful in today's society.
