In 1849, the Navy established its second military installation in Placerville- Fort Point. It would be until 1862 when the fort was destroyed by fire. From hereon out, Naval installations were located at various locations along the coastal Range: Blanco Canyon (1862), Point Reyes (1866), Yerba Buena Island (1868), Stockton harbor (1870), and finally Laguna Beach in 1875. However, toward the end of the 21st century efforts have been made to revive some aspects ofPlacerville's past while also creating new opportunities for its residents."
