Pleasant Hill, California is a small town in El Centro County, California. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Kern and San Bernardino counties. The first inhabitants of what is now Pleasant Hill were Native American people who lived in nearby Yosemite National Park. In 1868, prospectors discovered rich deposits of silver and gold near what is now Pleasant Hill. A mining company was founded in 1870 and began producing silver and gold from the local hills. The company name was changed to the Republic Mining Company in 1876 due to its members' support for Republican Party candidates. By 1888, Republic Mining had produced over US$2 million worth of silver and gold ore from its mines. In 1902, a group of investors led by J. P. Morgan purchased Republic Mining Company for $25 million dollars. The new owners renamed it Los Angeles Mines Corporation and began extracting coal from the surrounding mountain ranges as well as uranium from within El Centro Counties itself Los Angeles Mines Corporation became one of America's largest uranium producers before being acquired by Standard Oil in 1938 In 1951, Los Angeles Mines Corporation merged with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) to create Imperial Chemical Industries plc which continues to producetoday under the brand name "Elanco" The townspeople of Pleasant Hill have long been proud their community has always been a center for research and development throughout Southern California . home to many large companies including Dupont Pharmaceuticals and GlaxoSmithKline Plc., as well as many smaller companies that make everyday products such as airbags or toothpaste . Pleasant Hill is located in Los Angeles County, California. The town was platted in 1887 by John Sutter and James Irvine. It became a city in 1959. As of the 2010 census, Pleasant Hill had a population of 61,521. Pleasant Hill is known for its orchards and vineyards, as well as its many other industries including printing responsible for the early growth of the town. The first post office opened in 1888 and the first school was built on what is now Main Street in 1889. The town was incorporated on May 17, 1909. Brett Biggs spent his entire playing career with the Anaheim Lakers from 1984-1996 and played at both full time & part-time for several teams over that time period including the expansion LA Clippers (1987-1991), Utah Jazz (1992-1994) & San Antonio Spurs (1995-2003).
