Pleasant Hill is a small town in Kern County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Joaquin Valley and lies about 188 miles east of Sacramento. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. The first coffee roaster in Pleasant Hill was the J. H. Taylor Coffee Roasters which opened its doors in 1916. The business remained active until the early 1970s when it changed hands several times before being sold to Johnnie's Coffee Co., Incorporated in 1978. In that year, Johnnie's merged with another local coffee company, Pacific Coffee & Tea, which had been founded by two brothers - Harry and Don Draper - in 1922 as an independent business selling coffee beans from their farm near Redding, California. According to some reports, Harry Draper may have been one of the first people to use a French press for espresso (the first modern espresso machine was invented by Angelo Turco at a café in Rome). In 1984-1985 Pacific Coffee & Tea relocated its entire production facilities from Pleasant Hill to Fresno after purchasing them from JH Taylor Coffee Roasters who had continued operations as a distributor only part-time since 1916. At its peak production capacity of around 1 million cups/day it may have accounted for more than half of all ground coffee sales nationally during that period according to published sources Johnnie's closed down shop for good in 2001 but reopened under new ownership later that year with headquarters located within walking distance of their original store location; however they no longer produce any coffee and focus instead on providing catering services and gift items such as books and calendars
Pleasant Hill is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,992 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Covina–Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first people to live here were the Tongva Indians. They left around 1650 and moved to what is now Riverside County. In 1871, the US Geological Survey mapped this area and named it Pleasant Valley after Mount Pleasant in England which had been renamed for General Fremont by then-President Ulysses S. Grant after his victory over Mexico in 1846. In 1903, when Los Angeles was formed from portions of Kern and Riverside Counties, Pleasant Valley became part of Covina – a city that would grow up around it on two sides of what is now Sylmar Avenue between Vermont Avenue and Slauson Boulevard (now Whitewater Drive). When Los Angeles annexed Covina in 1928, it added Pleasant Hill to its rolls as well – making residents of both cities citizens of Los Angeles through annexation only. Today's population was estimated at 2,000 by 2000 but has since grown to more than 5,000 living within a radius of 5 miles (8 km) of downtown Covina proper. There are also small communities scattered throughout eastern Kern County including Northglenn and Perris as well as parts of western San Bernardino County including Ontario and Joshua Tree National Park outside the city limits

Pleasant Hill is a small town located in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 2,831 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sierra Nevada foothills region. The first permanent settlement in what is now Pleasant Hill was built by men from Bakersfield in 1872 during the Gold Rush era. By 1886, Pleasant Hill had a post office and two churches. A few years later, a school was built and it served as the community's only institution until 1912 when another school opened for students in nearby Cottonwood. One of the early pioneers to settle in Pleasant Hill was John Waddell who arrived with his family in 1875 from Illinois. He constructed a home on North Main Street which remain standing to this day and is still used as a residence today. In 1887, George Eastman founded The Eastman Kodak Company in San Francisco and moved his film manufacturing operations to Los Angeles County because of the new gold rush economy. By 1899, Kodak had produced over one million films statewide and employed over 100 workers including many local residents such as John Waddell and Charles Fenton who helped develop equipment and make prints at their factory before moving on to other businesses or careers after leaving Kodak headquarters.
