Pleasant Hill, California is a city of nearly 60,000 people located in the Central Valley of California. The community was founded in 1887 by Mormon pioneers and has been called "the Gateway to the Gold Rush." Today, Pleasant Hill is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America with a population that includes both white and Latino residents. In addition to its growing economy, Pleasant Hill has been known for its policing force. The first police department in Pleasant Hill was established in 1892. Since then, the department has grown to include over 100 officers who serve throughout the city. The history of law enforcement in Pleasant Hill begins with San Francisco's Municipal Police Department (SFMPD). SFMPD was created as part of mayor Gavin Newsom's attempt to improve public safety during the early days of San Francisco's gold rush. At the time, there were no laws governing how citizens should conduct themselves when seeking riches beneath the surface of civilization. This environment led to numerous dangerous situations for law-abiding individuals and criminals alike. One such situation occurred on October 15th, 1892 when two men named John Fitch and George Chapman were arrested for operating an unlicensed mining operation near what is now downtown San Francisco. After being released from prison, Fitch and Chapman organized a group of other miners into a resistive movement known as "The Miners' Union." This action helped set off some Of San Francisco's earliest riots. In 1895, SFMPD finally received enough officers to adequatelypolice their own streetscapes following completion of a $20 million expansion project funded by Chris Daly entitled "Pleasure Bay". That same year saw another important event when Harry Bailey became SFMPD's first Chief after successfully running for office against incumbent Chief J C Youngbloods. In 1897 Lieutenant A G Browning was appointed AssistantChief after successful promotion from detective sergeant to full lieutenant under Captain Harry Bailey Sr.. During this time period Captain Harry Bailey also served as Mayor Pro Tem which position he held from 1901-1902 before becoming Mayor himself effective February 1st 1902 In 1907 Lieutenant H H Payne became AssistantChief after successful promotion from detective sergeant to full lieutenant under Captain Harry Bailey Jr.. On September 26th 1907 Deputy Sheriff James Doherty joined SFMPD along with his new partner Sergeant Tom Lynch while on patrol duty outside City Hall during morning session of City Council where they observed Mayor Pro Tem Don Bolles trying unsuccessfully to enter through back door without proper identification Bolles later claimed that he had been mugged moments earlier by Doherty & Lynch who immediately took him into custody As it turned out Bolles only needed proper identification because he had previously worked as an agent for Internal Revenue Service (IRS) at one point previous To become mayor pro tem He would have continued working for IRS if he had not won election In 1907 captain Harry bailey retired due too ill health However assistant chiefs Payne & Lynch continue serving concurrently until 1915 When captain Harry bailey resigned due too ill health again assistant Chiefs Manningham & Wightman take over command effective May 1st 1915 At this time captain harrisonBailey will return as chief effective July 1st 1915 until his death on December 5th 1917 Although many assistant chiefs served concurrently there are no record existent showing how many chiefs actually served more than three years consecutively Unless otherwise noted all subsequent chiefs listed below have served at least five calendar years

Pleasant Hill is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,502 at the 2010 census. The name "Pleasant Hill" is derived from the Spanish word "hacienda" meaning "ranch." In 1892, Pleasant Hill became part of Bakersfield. In 1907, it became a city and remains so today. The first settlers to what would become Pleasant Hill were Mexicanenos who arrived in 1846 from Chihuahua City, Mexico. They named their land Los Nietos (the nuggets). By 1850, there were approximately 150 Mexicaneno residents living in and around what would become Pleasant Hill. In 1892, local citizens voted to incorporate as a city under the name of Bakersfield. At that time, only three other communities in Kern County had cities: Bell Gardens (1890), Northridge (1896), and Fullerton (1902). The first mayor of the new city was Hiram Sibley. Other notable early leaders of the city include Drury Bros., which later became law firms; J C Salinger's father-in-law Alfred Aspinwall; Josephine Baker; Charlie Chaplin; and Buster Keaton. In 1907, when Bakersfield incorporated as an independent city again with its own government and code of laws, Pleasant Hill was annexed into Bakersfield as part of that process. For many years after annexation it continued to be known as "Pleasant Hill". The original municipal building still stands on Euclid Avenue within the limits of present day Pleasant Hills police station precinct - now used for community events such as birthdays and Fourth Of July celebrations by the village's residents themselves!
Pleasant Hill, California was founded in 1868 by John H. Goodwin and his wife, Julia Ann Goodwin. The goodmans were the first to settle in what is now Pleasant Hill. They named their new town after a hill they had seen while on vacation in Scotland. Over time, other families moved into the area and the town quickly became a community of around 100 people. In 1912, the Goodnums donated land to make way for a high school and shopping center. The town was renamed Pleasant Hill High School in honor of the Goodnums' donation.
