The first café in Pleasant Hill was founded by Antoine Bourgeois in 1847. The town's first grocery store opened in 1851 and soon became a leader in the local food industry. In 1909, Pleasant Hill residents formed their own city government and began to import more conventional goods such as flour, milk, eggs, cheese, butter and other items from outside of town. This change led to a decline in population over time and eventually resulted in the city's annexation by San Francisco in 1979.
Pleasant Hill is an unincorporated community located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Los Angeles Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers were Christopher and Mary Hastings who arrived in 1849 and built a cabin on the present site of Pleasant Hill. In 1865, George Atherton platted what is now Pleasant Hill with land he had acquired from Rancho San Jacinto heirs John Sutter and Mariano Vallejo. The name "Pleasant Hill" was chosen because it sounded like a hill that would be good for grazing cattle. In 1872, Wm Henschel built a store and hotel near what is now Main Street in Pleasant Hill. By 1886, Pleasant Hill had a post office, schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, general store, livery stable, churches (Episcopal and Methodist), grain elevator, Masonic lodge No. 6 (now known as Garden Grove Lodge), telephone line to Los Angeles Union Station (then called Western Electric Building) and two hotels: the First National Bank Hotel and the Capitol Hotel which stood opposite each other on Main Street until 1914 when they were combined into one building known as the Capitol Theatre Complex Featuring The Beverly Hills Play House which closed in 1984 after being damaged by fire In 1922 there was also an amusement park called Pleasure Park which closed down in 1923 before returning to operation as Galaxy Park later renamed Galaxy Park again before closing down again in 2006 animal rights activist circus performer Laredo hitched a ride from Anaheim to Sacramento to perform at Galaxy Park during its final days but all rides were taken down including their show floor where they used to display their cages

In 1812, Dutch traders discovered Java (now Indonesia) and began trading with the natives there. They started using coffee as currency and found that the natives liked to drink it so they started producing more of it. In 1795, Nicholas-Jacques Conte set up a small press in Rome to roast beans for sale in Europe. He named his business “Coffee House” after his home country Java where he had first tasted the drink while en route home from India via Arabia (today's Saudi Arabia). In 1825, French monks came across Java when they were travelling through Asia on their way to visit Mecca; they brought back some of the first Arab tea masters who planted tea trees in Java in order to produce this valuable beverage known today as Arabic Coffee (Cupa Arabica). The Chinese also bought some java leaves at this time which led to their own form of roasting called Sinatra Roasts or National Roastings which remain popular today all over China! In 1794–1795, John Hill built one of London’s first public houses where he sold European roasted coffees called “Hill’s Coffee” (). This early incarnation of Starbucks may have been named after Nicholas-Jacques Conte due to its similarity in name - both men were from Bordeaux - but subsequent Starbucks variations like Seattle Native will always be associated with red bean & soluble sugar production located near Mount Vernon Cemetery just north of downtown Seattle – not only because Starbucks founded Red Robin Burgers south of Pike Place Market but also because those early roots date back more than 50 years!

The first permanent settler in Pleasant Hill was James Hays, who built a home on present day Mountain View Avenue. By 1870, Pleasant Hill had developed into a small farming community with about fifty residents. In 1875, Pleasant Hill became part of the newly formed Inyo County, and began to grow rapidly as an agricultural center. In 1902, the county seat moved from Pleasant Hill to Oakdale after the towns of Bishop and San Bernardino were annexed into Inyo County. In 1933, following passage of Assembly Bill 992, which repealed most local self-government within California, Pleasant Hill reverted to its pre-annexation status as a unincorporated community. In recent years, Plumas County has become increasingly interested in developing Pleasure Valley as an agricultural area separate from Butte County in order to provide more direct access to markets in Northern California. This has led to increased development activity along Interstate 5 near the town of Dysart and other communities located within easy reach of Highway 395. As such, much of what is now known about Pleasant Hill's history may soon be lost or forgotten except by those who have Some connection with it through family tradition or personal experience
