The USAF gift history in Pleasanton, California began on October 1, 1947 when the United States Air Force activated its first squadron in the city. The unit was called the 335th Fighter Squadron and was made up of P-51 Mustangs. The wing moved to mothballs on July 15, 1951 and was reactivated on October 1st as the 355th Fighter Wing which included F-94Cs. On May 8, 1957 the wing replaced the 355th at McConnell AFB with the 548th Fighter Wing which also included F-86 Sabres. The 548th FS disbanded on November 18, 1958 due to budget cuts and replacement by both sets of wings inactivated on January 16th 1959 with no anniversary present for either unit.
Pleasanton is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. The name "Pleasanton" comes from the Donation of 100 Pounds of Goods to the Poor by Philip Randolph in 1847. Pleasanton is located on the San Pablo Bay shoreline and is just east of Oakland. The first people to live in what is now Pleasanton arrived during the mid-19th century and began farming land near Lake Merritt. In 1888, a group of businessmen led by James Wickersham bought part of what would become Pleasanton from the Native Americans for $6,000. Wickersham named his new town after himself – James Fenton Park became known as Pleasanton after him. At that time, it was one of only two cities in Contra Costa County and its growth continued through annexation by Walnut Creek in 1902 and then by Hayward in 1906. During World War II, many local companies produced goods for military use such as munitions and aircraft parts; some remained headquartered here until the early 1990s when they moved out into other locales based on technological advancements such as computer chips or fiber optics network design advances which occurred during that decade throughout Northern California’s Bay Area cities because these businesses could no longer be housed within city limits without causing pollution or compromising public safety infrastructure or characterizing themselves adversely to surrounding neighborhoods or communities thereby undermining their business case economically speaking given current market conditions. In recent decades however several large tech companies have decided to locate outside Santa Clara County despite its high quality job climate; this has led to increased development around downtown with mixed-use projects like Googleplex taking root while older warehouses continue to be used for storage purposes although their windows are boarded up due to vandalism/repair gangs (or more commonly called “the crews”) who continuously tear down any plastic sheeting that has been put up over old toolsheds/storage areas). TheAAF was created on December 14, 1947 and initially consisted of three wings: the bombardment wing (which included the strategic bombing forces), the air defense wing, and the air combat wing. Each Wing had its own unique mission and responsibilities. The first gift from the USAF was a Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber. This plane was given to the RAF as a gifts in 1945 for their victory in World War II. The first jet fighter aircraft, Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, was gifted to the USAF in 1958. It became operational with Tactical Air Command in 1959. The USAF also received two helicopters: Sikorsky MH-60S Black Hawk and Bell 206 Jet Ranger. These were both gifted to provide aerial refueling for warplanes during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Today, there are over 1,700 different types of military equipment that has been donated by members of the USAF! This includes weapons systems like tanks, artillery pieces, missiles, submarines, planes and boats!

A new railroad station was built on Depot Street in1875 and soon it became one of the most important transportation hubs in California due to its close proximity to the Central Pacific Railroad and other railroads. In 1915, Pleasanton annexed part of Richmond Heights which had been abandoned by its previous occupants because they could not afford to maintain it. After years of debate, it was voted into city status on May 15, 1916 and has since grown into one of Northern California's most populous cities with a population over 10 million people today. The economy is dominated by high-tech companies such as Apple Inc., Google Inc., Facebook Inc., Amazon Web ServicesInc., Intel Corporation, Southern Calumet Company (now known as Oracle), Samsung Electronics Co., AT&T Mobility, eBay INC., LinkedIn Corp., Dell Inspirion laptop company and UPS truck empire among others as well as numerous small businesses that provide services such as home warranties or pet care services. A major redevelopment project began in 1998 called "Central Park" which transformed an entire section of downtown into an open-air park complete with a large pond, walking paths, tennis courts and more than 20 restaurants/cafes/bars/. It has since become one of Northern California's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its excellent public infrastructure including roadsides that are wheelchair accessible, large green spaces for sports events and concerts (including the nearby University campus), shopping malls/mallops that include many additional storesysupermarkets/, easy access to mass transit systems like BART (the Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority) or Caltrain (Caltrans).
