The Army's 1st Battalion, 9th Regiment was organized on December 12, 1887 at Pleasanton, California. The battalion served in the Mexican-American War and World War I. The battalion was mustered into the United States Army on October 20, 1918. The battalion arrived in France on November 3rd and served as a garrison unit until November 17th when they were transferred to the demobilization camp at Soissons. In January 1919 the battalion returned to California and disbanded on February 15th.

Pleasanton is located on the shore of San Pablo Bay and is surrounded by Contra Costa County on three sides and Alameda County on the fourth. In 1965, Pleasanton became an unincorporated community when it was merged with nearby Pinole into one municipality known as San Ramón. In 1978, Pleasanton annexed part of El Sobrante which made it one of the largest Incorporations ever within Contra Costa county - at that time larger than any other incorporated city or village within Contra Costa County save Antiochia (a small agricultural town east of Martinez). In 1984 dwarfism caused by irradiation from nuclear weapons testing began to diminish in number; however since then numerous cases have been reported throughout northern California due to continued irradiation from high-emitting power plants across America A new City Hall was built in downtown Pleasanton between 2003 and 2005 following a grant program administered bythen Mayor Ronnie Dixon. A master plan for redevelopment called "New Beginnings" calls for mixed-use development including jobsites for local manufacturers and services used by businesses adjacent to BART stations and Interstate 80/580 ramps near downtown. However this plan has faced opposition from some business owners who believe their properties will be lost if redevelopment takes place . Pleasanton is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 6,232 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Pleasanton is located on the east side of Livermore Valley and west of Livermore itself. The first people to inhabit what is now Pleasanton were Native Americans who lived there for centuries before Europeans arrived in 1769. In 1851, a group of local farmers formed the First National Bank in what today's downtown area. The bank was successful and soon moved to its current location on Third Street between Interstate 880 and State Route 362. In 1865, an American Civil War veteran named William Broughton bought 640 acres (25 hectares) around present-day Pleasanton from Wilmerding Rancho Comellos for $1,000 cash. The land became known as "Broughton Ranch" after him because it had been part of that man's military service. After purchasing the land, Broughton began to build a home and farm on it which he called "Broughton House". He also donated some of his profits from his commercial investments in San Francisco to help finance this new community project. One important development led to the growth of Pleasanton during its early years was ranching by Mexican Americans who came overland through Yreka into California during the 1850s looking for new grazing lands east of Sacramento Nevada Territory. By 1860 most all ranching had stopped due to settlers moving into those areas so much faster than they could be replaced by Mexican Americans seeking more land and money than pastoral life could provide them with). Some men continued ranchering until 1881 when Prohibition made farming illegal in California; many men then turned their attention to manufacturing starting with baking powder as one product among many others that flourished during this period thanks largely to unrestricted access to natural resources including oil shale and gas reserves discovered near Redwood City CA . This period also saw significant growth for African American businesses such as Jack Robinson’s grocery store which opened in 1865 followed by other black-owned businesses throughout town during this time including two banks and several churches racially integrated beginning in 1870 . An important event associated with Pleasanton's early history was the dedication on July 1st 1898of Redwood Cemetery which served as both a burial ground for local citizens as well as providing space for newly founded schools within walking distance of each other - making it one stop between these institutions while still being accessible via horse or buggy

In 1896, the city acquired land north of Interstate 80 to form the current section of Pleasanton which includes much of the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay. This acquisition led to growth in business and population in Pleasanton, with many new buildings being constructed throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s including some now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
