It is located on the eastern side of San Francisco Bay and part of the East Bay region of Northern California. Pleasanton's economy is based on agriculture and services. The first people to inhabit what is now Pleasanton were Native Americans who lived near by in the hills between Ipswich and Martinez. A small cluster of villages grew up around this area before 1800, when Spanish explorers discovered these lands. The first permanent settler in what would become Pleasanton was José Antonio Moraga, who came to live in 1834 with his family from Argentina. In 1840, John Sutter arrived here with his brother-in-law Jedediah Smith and founded Sutter's Fort on Hwy 1 near present day Walnut Street. By 1850, over 100 families had made their homes here and it became an agricultural center with irrigation systems and ditches for watering crops. The citizens built a new courthouse in 1858 which still stands today. In 1872, after many years of drought that caused extensive damage to agriculture throughout Northern California, voters passed a resolution authorizing town supervisor elections within three years under then-town board president Harry Fenton (now Mayor). On November 3, 1872, the first election took place; James Ewing won reelection unopposed as town supervisor against challenger George Wittell. In 1916 Pacific Electric Railway extended its line through downtown Pleasanton from Menlo Park to Hercules Oaks; this allowed for more commercial development than had been possible before because there was no other transportation link between Menlo Park and eastern Contra Costa County beyond streetcars running along El Camino Real (then called Mission Road). This led to a series of new businesses opening up alongMission Boulevard including cafes such as Cafe Grado (later Zephyr Coffee), City National Bank building #1 (later known as Wells Fargo & Company Building) and Pody's Drug Store #1 (later known as Kapp's Hardware store). A major fire destroyed most of downtown business district May 2nd 1919; however local entrepreneurs rebuilt utilizing salvaged materials while also developing new enterprises such as The Brewery District which included two breweries - O'Malley Bros./Doherty Brewing Co., later renamed Golden West Brewing Company Inc.,and Grandview Breweries Ltd.. Some brick buildings remain even after being completely destroyed by the fire: Hotel Californian/ Chinese Consolidated Employees Club Building (#4), China National Bank building (#5), Hastings departments store building(now occupied by Santana’s Pizza) and Guggenheim Ballroom/Babylon Theatre were all rebuilt using bricks taken from old office buildings which still stand today! Pleasanton has experienced rapid growth during its early days with many businesses coming online soon after opening their doors! Today there are numerous restaurants, stores, bars etc., making it one of the most vibrant cities in Silicon Valley!

Pleasanton, California is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of southern California. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1887 by James Fenton and his wife Sarah Jane Ballard as an agricultural center on Hwy 101 between Mount Pleasant and Gilroy. The name "Pleasanton" originated from a ranch owned by John A. Richardson whereFenton grew corn and wheat. By 1902, the town had been renamed to honor General United States Grant who had died two years earlier in office. In 1924, Pleasanton became an incorporated city with a population of 508 people. That same year saw the opening of its first school, East Elementary which served grades K-6 until 1949 when it was replaced by North Elementary School which continues to serve students today. In 1951, Pleasanton annexed nearby Conner and merged with its neighbor to create what is now known as Conner Village (population: 1,690). In 1978, Pleasanton again annexed adjacent townsville (population: 2,564) making it one of only four Californias cities to annex another municipality since 1895 when statehood occurred within that state; the others being Sacramento (1896), Los Angeles (1912), and Oakland (1937). At that time, Conner Village also became home to both East High School & West High School - two of the first schools in California opened after statehood! The annexation helped make possible more than $100 million in business investment over 20 years – including redevelopment of downtowns in both townsville and Pleasanton – creating some 530 jobs during that time period alone! In 2002–2003 ethnic riots rocked much of Southern California after persistent rumors circulated about desegregation plans for certain white neighborhoods near southtown Los Angeles; however no such plans materialized and no violence erupted as a result! A number of lawsuits were brought against local officials throughout this time period alleging various irregularities such as fraudulent land sales; however all but one were settled out-of-court before trial began or resulted in acquittals by all defendants involved save for one individual who received a prison sentence for perjury related charges! Today's skyline features several high-rise buildings including One Financial Center & Staples Center Complex – both built during the late 1990s following enactment of landmark legislation known as First Amendment Development Act – along with many smaller businesses clustered around downtown areas containing numerous restaurants/cafes/bars/Shops etc., making it easily accessible from nearly anywhere within easy walking distance!
