In 1846, the California National Guard was organized. It was moved to Pleasanton in 1850. In 1861, it became part of the United States Army. The army disbanded in 1865 and the guard moved to San Francisco. In 1868, it became part of the newly formed California State Highway Patrol. It has been a state force ever since.
Pleasanton is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 12,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Contra Costa County and is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay. The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1849. They were most likely Scandinavian/Norwegian farmers who named their landing site "Dorney". In 1853, two brothers founded what became known as The Dyer Mill and Store Company which soon became one of the largest cotton mills in California. Incorporation took place on May 26th of that year. On December 3rd 1870, Pleasanton was officially incorporated as a town with a population of 295 residents. In 1875, Pleasanton annexed part of unincorporated District 9 from Richmond and its incorporation as a separate company resulted in an increase to its population from 2,000 to 10,000 residents within three years – all thanks to new transportation means being developed by Pioneer Electric Railway (Pioneer). In 1888–89 when San Francisco's Chinatown opened up following the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge and ferry service between San Francisco and Alameda Island it led to an influx of Cantonese people into Pleasanton which added another layer of diversity to this otherwise Anglo-Saxon community. During World War II munitions factories were built here including Kaiser Aluminum Works which produced aircraft parts for Boeing and Douglas Aircraft Corporation until 1973 when production shifted to Mexico City; however local demand never diminished so much that these factories did not reopen until after NAFTA went into effect in 1995 diversifying American industry again (the last Kaiser plant closed down in 2006). An important aspect during this time period was agricultural production with many large tracts given over for orchards or vineyards such as those near Redwood City and Menlo Park; fruit trees were also grown here for juice concentrate (sour apple) or wine (blueberry), pies are still popular today notwithstanding having originated centuries ago with early Native Americans who hunted elk then gathered berries while living off the land before moving inland 100 miles due east where they built their impressive stone quarries beside Potrero Creek before developing agriculture there including raising cattle which helped power thereafter some very large wind turbines producing electricity until recently! By 2000 more than one third of all SF water consumed came from groundwater drawn from aquifers deep beneath our communities! Well intentioned public policy decisions made decades ago about how water usage should be managed have had unintended consequences continuing unabated today: surface drinkers now consume more groundwater than toilets flush per capita! However recent construction projectsGWSDrawingWaterFromAquifersUnderOur Communities has reversed many those ill-conceived policies resulting largely from mismanagement by earlier municipal officials prior to state takeover leading ultimatelyto increased costs associated with managing this resource All told since 1978 we’ve lost over 50 million gallons annually via infiltration into our subsurface aquifers!!! How could this happen if we really cared about preserving our environment? Therein lies an interesting irony: while environmentalists cry “water theft” developers scream “more money for infrastructure” !!

When the first Europeans arrived in California, they were met with hostility. The native people, the indigenous Atheris, were brutal to newcomers and considered them second-class citizens. The only difference between Europeans and natives was that the Europeans had guns and could kill animals for food. In 1776, two American Revolutionary War veterans, James Krieger and George Rogers Clark, discovered a large gold mine in what is now Pleasanton. They began prospecting and soon found new mines within walking distance of their home. By 1800, many people in Northern California were rich from mining activities in the area. The Gold Rush of 1849 brought more immigrants to Northern California during the 1850s. Many of these men were farmers who saw an opportunity to make money by processing gold nuggets into coins or jewelry. In 1858, a man named William Hahn organized a group of entrepreneurs to build a railroad through parts of Northern California that would lead to Sacramento City (now Fresno). When construction started on the railroad, many miners flocked to find work as it opened up new areas for exploration and investment. The town of Pleasanton was founded on October 26th , 1868 by Captain John Sutter with help from his friend Major Elisha Scott! The name “Pleasanton” means “peaceful place” in Spanish and was chosen because it was best suited for agricultural purposes given its location near San Francisco Bay. In 1870, Drury built the first store in town which became known as Merchants Exchange located at 5th Street/Avenue Loma
