On October 20th, 1918, Pinafore arrived at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for an overhaul. The ship’s crew received a gift from the US government - a permit to sail under the flag of Chile. This event is sometimes referred to as “Pinasfore Day”.
Pleasanton, California is a city located in Contra Costa County, California. As of the 2010 census, its population was 54,512. The name of the city comes from Pleasanton Valley which extended as far north as Martinez and east to Walnut Creek. In 1846, John C. Fremont surveyed what would become Pleasanton and named it after General James Halleck's army encampment on the banks of the Amador River. The first post office in Pleasanton opened in 1868. The original town site spanned only a short strip of land along Amador River before being developed into a large village with seven blocks bounded by I-80 (east), First Street (west), Brush Road (northwest), Middlefield Road (southwest), and Amador Boulevard/Fremont Boulevard (south). In 1872, George Wickersham purchased all of present-day Contra Costa County from Mission San José de las Americas for $1 million. Wickersham formed an agricultural society and began acquiring land near where he proposed to build a new town - including most of today's Pleasanton - but never completed his project because he died prior to its completion. In 1886, when Bay Area Rapid Transit began operations through San Francisco Municipal Railway District No. 4, passengers travelling southbound on First Street saw "Pleasanton" written on the train car windows in red paint. The local paper published an article explaining that "the town had been given the name by Bay City & Southern Railroad officials who were visiting our section during their trip down the river." A decade later when BART opened up around downtown SF MUNI riders also noticed red paint on train cars advertising "Pleasureton". eventually everyone learned that BART designation was just an advertising gimmick while realignment of rail lines caused "Pleasureton" to be abandoned entirely at some point between 1984 and 1988 After years of development within its borders with several shopping malls opening up around 1990-1991 such as Saks Fifth Avenue Plaza located adjacent to Interstate 880 exit 116 soon followed by Santana Row shopping center across from Interstate 680; more recently many small businesses have built up around West Oakland Mall which is right next door to Interstate 580 corridor

Pleasanton, California is a city in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 23,844 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Pleasanton were Missionaries of Charity who came in 1839-1840. In 1865, Captain George P. Hill founded the town on land he acquired from the Alameda Land Company. By 1870, there were 10 families living in Pleasanton and it consisted of just three blocks long and one block wide. In 1872, an agreement was made between General James Hutton and John Dalles to build a canal through Contra Costa County linking San Francisco with Oakland so that goods could be shipped eastward rather than having to go through Sacramento or Stockton. This Canal became known as the Donner Pass Road and Pleasanton grew up around it. A post office was established at Pleasanton on December 12th, 1872. The name "Pleasanton" was chosen because it had a warm climate and its people were friendly towards each other; this contrasted sharply with most of Northern California where mail service had been established only a few weeks earlier by American Express Company notes! The first store in town opened its doors on March 6th, 1876. A sawmill started operation in 1878 and soon began producing lumber for buildings and furniture throughout Northern California as well as export to Spain and Japan. The mill went out of business after a few years but left behind an impressive legacy including five miles (8 km) of sawlog road which still connects downtown today! On October 29th, 1888, Wm Henson organized the first water main system in Contra Costa County when he install new pipelines from Arroyo Seco reservoir via Northwood Avenue to his home near West Egger Boulevard (now Interstate 680). Today's Wm Henson Elementary School is located adjacent to his former residence which still stands today - one of many historical landmarks located within walking distance of downtown Pleasanton today! A large cotton gin operated by Jno Boggs started churning out raw cottonseed ready for planting on October 15th 1890; this was also the first time that cottonseed oil was produced west of the Mississippi River! In 1902 Mayor Harry Fowler proposed annexing neighboring Pittsburg into Pleasanton but no action was taken until 1906 when amendments were passed adding Pittsburg City Council as an equal partner with pleasure park privileges! In 1912 mayor Fowler again recommended annexation but this time larger municipalities like Richmond took exception to being lumped together with a small city without any real civic amenities! After much back-and-forth discussionen between both cities over jurisdictional issues their incorporation finally occurred on July 17th 1914 under charter number 9046!) With annexations like these coming frequently during these early days of municipal government in Contra Costa County (still outlined largely by area boundaries!), it's easyto see how little distinction did actual governance make - all decisions concerning local affairs essentially rested within individual municipalities until much later !
