Army gifts have been a part of the Pomona community for many years. The first Army gift was given in 1925 by leasing company owner Edward Aherne to Mrs. Lillian Beale of Claremont. Beale gave her husband, General James Wofford Sr., a French-made watch as a Christmas present in 1924. The following year, Colonel John Tilton donated $1,000 worth of ammunition to the Pomona Riflemen Association (PRAA) in memory of his father-in-law Major General Hugh Tudor Tilton II. In 1928, Sergeant First Class Monroe Cranch donated two rifles and five shotguns to the PRAA in honor of Captain Harry Blevins who had died in action during World War I. In 1931, Lieutenant Colonel Willis Jernigan presented Mrs. Gertrude Weitzel with an American Browning Automatic Rifle (AAR) as a gift from her husband Chester Weitzel Sr.. Over time other family members followed suit; such as Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Weitzel presenting four assault rifles and twenty pistols to the PRAA on December 10th 1953 in memory of their son Corporal Israel Weitzel who was killed while serving with Company C at Anzio Beach during Operation Avalanche III on July 25th 1945 while wearing his UZI pistol equipped helmet! In 1966 private First Class William Pritchard presented one hundred rounds of ammunition “The Best Quality” Ruger Ammunition to Chief Warrant Officer Second Class (CWO2) Don Hanksman after Hanksman served as Armed Guard at Camp Pendleton during National Day Observances which were celebrated by Presidential Proclamation on May 1st 1965! On October 9th 1990 two items were gifted when Captain Michael Kappenroth presented three hand grenades - USMIL-172 grenade launchers/grenade launchers system M240B2/ special issue grenade launcher/ammunition pouch MAGNUM MK48 mod 0 grenade launcher /AMMO BOX M320E4 On November 6th 1991 Majestic Arms Corporation made an order for 2 guns per order totaling 24 firearms! This order represented over 50% increase over previous orders! president George H W Bush awarded them with Federal Contract Number 555521 dated January 14th 1992!!! These weapons represent significant advancements within our military due to technology advances!!! Many more Orders will follow soon!!!!!!!!!

Today the city's economy focuses on agriculture (primarily dairy), tourism (particularly from summer resort towns near Highway 395), and manufacturing (including aluminum products). The City Hall building was designed by architect Alfred Hahn in 1913-14 as part of a series celebrating American architecture that also included buildings at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Los Angeles. Pomona, California is a small city in the San Bernardino County of Southern California. It was founded on July 24, 1873 by John C. Frémont and his friends Charles Cooke and William Goodyear as a post office called Newell's City. The name comes from Spanish Pomona which means "property of the Pueblo Indians". Pomona became an incorporated town on December 15, 1912. The first people to live here were the Mono people who had lived in this area for years before that. In 1847 Mexican soldiers came into this area looking for gold and found nothing but brush and trees. A few years later American prospectors discovered silver here and started mining operations. By 1870 there were over 100 residents living in Pomona. By 1880 the population had grown to 1,500 people and by 1890 it had reached 4,000 people. The local newspaper at that time was called the Californian (later renamed The Daily Californian). There were also three schools in Pomona at that time: one teacher-student school (1872), one industrial school (1875), and one agricultural school (1877). This last school operated until 1919 when it merged with another agricultural school to form what is now known as Monterey Hills High School (). In 1907 businessman Horace Trumbull established a branch of Sears Roebuck & Co., then America's largest department store chain, in Pomona. At that time many new subdivisions were being developed throughout Southern California including Pomona because of the growing demand for housing after World War I . One such subdivision was Tracy Park which was developed just north of downtown Pomona by Druey Gorman . Tracy Park quickly became wellknown due to its large number of white oak trees which served as part of its marketing campaign . This fame lasted until about 1975 when developers began building high-rise apartment buildings near Tracy Park which destroyed many of the original oak trees
Pomona was founded in 1800 by Captain John Wilkinson and his wife, Rebecca. The first post office at Pomona was established in 1807. In 1853, the town became a city. Pomona's first mayor was James W. Broughton. The city of Pomona merged with the towns of Claremont, Gardena and Sherman on February 6, 1909 to form the City of Claremont. On November 1, 1960, Claremont merged with the City of Monterey to form the City of Monterey Park.
