The Pomona Coast Guard has been providing law enforcement and emergency services to the people of Pomona since 1912. The service grew out of a need to keep the community safe during tight times. When the Coast Guard was founded, there were no helicopters or boats available to help officers cover long distances in search of criminals and smugglers. Today, the Coast Guard provides many different types of services, including: Search and Rescue; Harbor Patrol; public safety; maritime security; environmental protection; and homeland security. In addition, they offer educational opportunities for children from all walks of life who want to learn about our coast guard mission and how we protect our community.

Pomona is the most populous city in San Bernardino County and second-most populous city in Southern California after Los Angeles. It is also one of the larger cities in Northern California. The first European to visit what would become Pomona was Giovanni Domenico Pacheco on December 5, 1769, during his 1769 journey from Monterey Bay to San Bernardino Valley. He named it Villa del Rey because he had been given this land by Governor Manuel Nieto of Bakersfield with instructions to build a palazzo for him and his family. On February 11, 1872, when Pomona became part of Riverside County, it had a population of only 22 people. In 1912 Pomona's population topped 200 people for the first time and reached 300 by 1940; however World War II destroyed much of downtown Pomona so Industrial Production stopped until 1945 When resumed it grew rapidly In 1951 City Council Resolution No. 1559 proposed naming streets after Christopher Columbus including Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Boulevard which led to construction of Christopher Columbus Drive and Christopher Street In 1955 City Council Resolution No. 1611 named streets after Medalists killed in battle with Japanese forces during World War II In 1957 City Council Resolution No. 1928 named streets after Persons Who Ended Civil Rights Movement including Rosa Parks Boulevard which led to construction of Montgomery Boulevard On November 3rd 1959 Mayor Harry Wilburn dedicated two blocks east of downtown between Broadway & University Avenue (now Page Avenue) Streets were renamed African Americana Avenues Broome Street between Euclid Avenue & Normandie Drive (now Swenson Place) Pershing Avenue between Euclid Ave & Beaumont Place (now Roosevelt Way / Claremont Boulevard) Name changed again on January 1st 1970 to honor George Armstrong Custer
The Coast Guard was founded on April 15, 1915. The first Coast Guard cutter was built in 1915 and the first Coast Guard ship, the SS Miami, was launched in 1917. In 1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the National Marineman's Association (NMAA) to train coast guard officers. NMAA donated a number of patrol boats and other maritime equipment to the Coast Guard. In 1949, NMAA also donated a Coast Guard helicopter to be used for law enforcement purposes. In 1952, Congress passed an act that authorized the creation of a special service branch within the Coast Guard called the Customs Patrol Service (CPS). The CPT became operational on October 1, 1951. The CPT is responsible for enforcing United States Customs laws at sea and ashore along America's coastal areas.

Pomona, California is a city in the Inland Empire of Southern California. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Gabriel Mountains, about 20 miles east of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Pasadena. As of the 2010 census, Pomona had a population of 128,827. The name "Pomona" was given by Spanish missionaries in 1819 when they called it "Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria." The area that now Pomona was part of Madera County until 1879 when it became part of incorporated San Bernardino County. The first post office opened in 1873. The city was named after Bishop George Augustus Murphy who founded a mission there in 1829. Pomona's rich history can be seen from its numerous monuments and buildings date back to before 1850 such as the Old Stone Fort built c1851 which served as a military garrison for Mission San Fernando Rey de Cristo (now Cathedral Basilica). In 1907, then-Mayor James Fenton organized an effort to rename all localities in Riverside County “Pomona” because so many people were moving to that county and wanted their names associated with something other than Riverside or Anaheim Hills. The result: Pomona (and Ramon) became one unit with a new City Hall building erected at 1193 N First St., now known as Mexican American Museum Plaza & Park and home to the Department Of Parks & Recreation since 1995 Many prominent people had their homes here including movie stars Clark Gable and Cary Grant; Governor Ronald Reagan; Edward Munch; Jr.; founder Roy Cohn; Mayor James Fenton Principal dancer Elsa Meyerbach dies young at age 28 while attending dance school here during Prohibition era There are also several streets named after famous residents like Owens Road near UCLA Medical Center which once housed an Oral Roberts Hospital.. This list slowly grows every year as more information becomes available about these individuals and their hometowns!
