The United States Air Force (USAF) has been providing air support in various locations around the world for more than 60 years. One of the aircraft used by the USAF during this time was the Boeing 727 transport aircraft. The USAF started using these planes tosend gift baskets to friends and family in Port Hueneme, California in 1961. This tradition continued until 1987 when a new airplane became available and it was decided that the USAF should send gifts from its planes instead of gift baskets. The first plane to be sent with this new policy was an F-15E Eagle fighter jet. It is unknown when or where this plane was originally sent, but it is likely that it flew into Southern California to pick up passengers and deliver gifts to friends and family over the course of many months or even years. In recent years, other types of airplanes have become available for deployed gift history including C-130J Hercules transports, MQ-9 Reaper drones, AH-1Z Viper Attack Helicopters, KC-135 Stratotankers, EC-130Js Commando Hawks and Aérospatiale Alouette III helicopters. These planes are all used in different places around the world and can be found at bases such as Ramstein Air Base in Germany or RAF Mildenhall in England. Each deployment provides a unique opportunity for USAAF personnel stationed abroad to interact with their loved ones back home on various levels. In 1969, the Port Hueneme Air Force Base deployed a gift to local residents in memory of its fallen service members. The donation was made by then-Lt. Col. Donald A. Williamson and Mrs. Betty Williamson in honor of the late Captains Kenneth D. Hensley and Jimmie J. Kinnear, both from Port Hueneme AFB. The gift was a set of wings and a military helmet that were donated to the air force base by their husbands in memory of their loved ones who had been killed while serving our country.
Port Hueneme, California is a city located in southern Ventura County, California. The population was 146 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Port Hueneme were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and Hernando de Soto on February 14, 1542. Spanish traders and missionaries arrived soon after and built Mission San Francisco de Asís (1769) on what is now the north side of town. In 1821, Mexican land grant Rancho Santa Fe was given to Antonio Cárdenas by General José Joaquín Carrillo y Pavón. In 1858, American Civil War veteran John Boggs decided to homestead in Port Hueneme after his family's ranch failed in Buena Park. Boggs named his property "Hueneme" after Captain Manuel Nieto's vessel "Huelga" which had been sunk off the coast of Point Reyes National Seashore during a storm on July 12, 1849 while attempting to enter San Francisco Bay from Monterey Bay. He also donated land for a public school, including what is now downtown Port Hueneme and much of today's eastern border with Santa Clarita Valley; it opened in 1861. In 1906, port facilities were developed at present-day Harbor City when dredging began along the existing channel between Ventura Harbor and Los Angeles Harbour due to increased trade with China following World War I; this led to an increase in employment at the harbor as well as construction of nearby commercial buildings such asymount warehouse (1912), Leland Stanford Junior University (1916), Swenson & Sons Packing Co., Inc.(1920), First Interstate Traders Trust Company(1925). The harbor became more important during World War II because it served as a vital embarkation point for troops shipping into Pacific theatre battles such as Guadalcanal and Okinawa; however, following Japan's surrender in 1945 there was little demand for port operations after hostilities ended. After years of decline resulting from economic recession and competition from neighboring cities such as Long Beach and Westchester County*, Port Hueneme experienced significant revitalization beginning in 2006 when Mayor Sam Liccardo designated it one of five sites selected by then-Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa for fuel storage development called 'The Hub'. With access to new technology including container terminals that could handle 1 million containers per day*(*Before 2007 only 100 trucks could be parked/ unloaded daily.),[1]the city has seen an influx of businesses both inward AND outward throughout its central business district totaling over $500 million worth of investment since 2006 alone*(*This includes projects like The Hub which are not directly related to container transportation but provide jobs within specific industries.) It wasn't until recently that cultural events have become popular among residents & tourists alike; seeing first hand how music festivals can bring thousands upon thousands people together for activities like arts& crafts or just plain fun has given locals reason enough NOT TO REGret having turned their backs on their once thriving community.*(*See below about some recent successes!) * 2005: Mayor Sam Liccardo designatement - This marked a turning point for Port Hueneming when Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced plans for the Hub project which would see container terminals opened that could handle 1 million containers per day!

A branch of Southern Pacific Railroad reached Hueneme in 1912. The city's name honors Don José María de Salinas y Gasset y Arroyo, a captain who served as lieutenant colonel on the Mexican military expedition that fought against United States forces during the Mexican-American War (1846–48).
