The California Air National Guard's (CANA) 4th Fighter Wing, located in Port Hueneme, is one of the most decorated wings in the United States military. The wing has been awarded numerous awards, including five Distinguished Unit Citations and two unit citations for heroism in combat. In addition to its fighters and bombers, the wing also has an impressive collection of helicopter equipment and flew its first helicopter into service in 1966. In 1959,Port Hueneme was selected as the home base for the USAF's new 5th Tactical Fighter Wing activated at Claremont Army Airfield. The wing soon became known as "The Gladiators" due to their hard work and dedication during World War II while stationed at Morro Bay Naval Base. From here they participated in countless air fights against Nazi Germany and Japan. After World War II ended, many members of The Gladiators were transferred to various units throughout California before beingactivated again at Claremont Army Airfield on 1 October 1949 as part of Project DASH-3 which was designed to establish a regional fighter force within California specifically for anti-aircraft warfare purposes. The wing operated out of Claremont until it was decommissioned on 15 May 1957 when it was merged with the 3d Fighter Wing at Buena Park AFB to form what would become known as the 5th Fighter Wing effective 1 November 1957. As part of Project DASH-3, the wing acquired three Republic F-84F Thunderjets fromofthe 8th Fighter Squadron at Beale AFB CA.. These aircraft would serve as primary trainers for USAF pilots until rotary conversions could be completed by summer 1958 which would allow them to take on operational roles with The Gladiators underwing! Aircraft procurement programs continued through 1958 with plansning to acquire six jet aircraft however these never materialized due to budget limitations; this left McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company (MDA) without any competitive bids after initial proposals were received! MDA eventually won a contract through Boeing Corporation subsidiary Northwest Airlines Incorporated (NWA) who provided four Grumman F6F Hellcats instead! This allowed MDA access to world class technology that they would later use on their own planes during Operation Overlord resulting in negative publicity for McDonnell Douglas! It wasn't until 1962 when Lockheed Martin Aircraft Company entered into an agreement with Northrop Aviation Co., Ltd., providing them not justwith jet engines but entire production lines available should production exceed customer expectations; this program changed how American aviation functioned! It wasn't long before Lockheed Martin had produced more than 50%of all aerospace engineering products used by all military services worldwide! With this increase in production came increased profits for both companies! Port Hueneme is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 33,644 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Ventura County after Oxnard and the fifth most populous city in Southern California. The area now known as Port Hueneme was first occupied by the Tongva people. In 1821, Juan Bautista Portocarrero discovered gold at Rancho San Vicente, which led to the development of this region as an agricultural center for mining operations. The port thus became one of Ventura County's earliest economic engines and remains a major local industry today. The original townsite was located on what is now downtown Hueneme; it thrived during the early 20th century but then declined with World War II and ensuing effects of post-World War II recession. However, since 2000 it has slowly regained some lost ground: In 2008 its unemployment rate was 3%, below that of Oxnard and much lower than any other community in Ventura County. In 1951, part of the city boundary was moved southward to include Carpinteria Creek; that year new suburbs were created adjacent to downtownHueneme to increase its population size by about 10%. Since then new neighborhoods have been developed all around downtownHueneme – including Carpinteria Creek – continuing a pattern which has seen downtownHueneme grow more populous every decade since then (the exception being 1990 when its population only reached 29,000). Today’s Port Hueneme owes much of its current success to two factors: First, because it enjoys excellent schools within walking distance from almost all residents; second, due to its location on the west coast between Los Angeles and points north – perfect for business commuters who need easy access both inland and outlying areas without having to drive or fly into eithercity
The U.S. Air Force has a rich history of giving gifts to others, both in the form of munitions and other items that improve air power or support military operations. This history can be traced back to World War I and the birth of the USAF as an arm of the Army. The first gift from the USAF was a light bomber, which was given to General Billy Mitchell in 1928. In 1940, General George Custer gave a Boeing P-47 Thunderbolt jet fighter to combat RAF Fighter Command; this was the first jet aircraft ever donated to any peacetime military organization. In 1954, General Curtis LeMay gifted two McDonnell F-4 Phantom IIs and three Martin B-57 Stratojet bombers to Air University Squadron at Rome/Fiumicino Airport in Italy; this was the first time any country had donated aircraft for use by an American university squadron during wartime. In 1971, Major General Wilbur Wright gave five Lockheed L-719 Hustler low Altitude models (LAM) for use by Air University Squadron at Upper Manhattan International Airport in New York City; this was also the last time any United States military unit would donate such planes during wartime. In 1975,Major General Carl Spaatz gifted six Northrop Grumman E-8 Joint STARS Constellation airborne early warning and control system aircraft (AEW&C) to aggressor forces operating over North Korea; this was one of only two occasions such systems were ever donated either directly or indirectly to another nation during peacetime. Today, gifts from the USAF continue to play an important role in supporting airpower operations around the world including contributions towards technology development and research as well as providing equipment and supplies for frontline units throughout our service branches.

Port Hueneme was established in 1887 by Captain Augustus F. Cooke as a port on the San Diego River. The town quickly grew and became a major shipping center for goods brought overland from Southern California. In 1916, the United States Navy built a naval base there called Naval Air Station Miramar which served as an important training ground for American sailors. After World War II, Port Hueneme grew even more popular as a commercial port, and it soon emerged as one of the leading ports in the country. The town's dramatic oceanfront setting and its close proximity to both San Diego and LA made it an ideal location for development, and over time Port Hueneme has become one of the most affluent communities in Orange County. Today, Port Hueneme is still known for its': picturesque coastline, rich history, vibrant nightlife,and rich cultural experiences.
Port Hueneme was founded in 1887 by Captain John W.Hueneme and his wife, Emma. The original name of the town was "Salinas" after the Salinas River which flows through it. The town was renamed Port Hueneme in 1912 when the railroad arrived and introduced a new name for every station on its line. The towns first post office opened in 1909. In 1916, Port Hueneme became an incorporated city with a population of over 100 people.
