Port Hueneme, California is a city in Ventura County, California. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 112. It was founded in 1905 by Spanish immigrants and is located on the Pacific Coast near Malibu. The port is used to export goods from the eastern United States and to import goods from Europe and Asia. The first person to live in Port Hueneme was José de la Torre who arrived in May 1885 with his family. The first store opened here in 1907 and manila paper was invented here by Manuel Miranda y Valdés in 1909. In 1916, Alameda County was formed from part of Ventura County and the City of Hueneme became an enclave within Alameda County. The port grew rapidly during World War II when America needed munitions and exports for war production. The city also benefited from military housing developments such as Fort MacArthur which were built adjacent to the harbor entrance. Today, Port Hueneme remains a popular tourist destination with its beautiful beaches, historical architecture, art galleries, restaurants and shopping malls

In addition to providing search and rescue services, the Coast Guard also provides environmental education, anti- piracy patrols, law enforcement and humanitarian relief. One of the earliest gifts from the Coast Guard was a set of binoculars in 1892. The gift was made in memory of Capt. John Fitch who died in 1886 during a naval patrol off Long Island Sound. A committee established to choose a gift for Fitch submitted suggestions including a set of binoculars or an telescope. After careful consideration, it was decided that a set of binoculars would be the best way to honor Captain Fitch's memory. In 1929, the Coast Guard first became eligible for direct appropriations from Congress under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This gave them greater flexibility in how they could use their funds which helped increase their operations across all aspects of maritime safety while also enhancing their ability to help meet national emergencies such as hurricanes or earthquakes. Since then, countless gifts have been bestowed upon the Coast Guardsmen and women who serve our country each year - some brought back by those who received them shortly after they were given; others donated long after these individuals had passed away; still others as part of special events or commemorative programs lasting throughout eternity like National Binocular Day or Commander’s Day (Ecclesiastical Calendar month/year) when members receive an engraved certificate with one specific gift from Commanding Officer(s).
