Port Hueneme is a city located in San Diego County, California. The population of the city was 54,501 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego–Carlsbad–San Marcos metropolitan area. First settled in 1847 as an agricultural community on Hueneme Creek, Port Hueneme grew rapidly during World War II when its port became one of the most important in the region for supplies to combat Nazi Germany and Japan. Afterward, growth slowed until the mid-2000s when it began to experience rapid redevelopment including new housing and businesses. Today, Port Hueneme is a thriving center for commerce and industry with over 20 Fortune 500 companies based there. The original town site was 3 square miles (7 km2). In 1849, John Payson Hutchins purchased 5 square miles (13 km2) of landnorthwest of present-day Hueneme City from Manuel Nieto for $4,000. Hutchins named his new community after Commodore George Vancouver's wharf at Point Conception on Angel Island where British ships landed goods during the Mexican-American War. In 1907, General James Houstoun donated land east of Hutchins' colony to build what would become Marine Hospital #1 which served as both a military hospital and ambulatory care facility for civilian patients until 1962 when it became known as Harborview Medical Center. That same year also saw the opening ofHueneme Elementary School which later merged with Carlsbad Middle School to form Carlsbad Unified School District#8 (now Carlsbad Unified School District). In 1928, construction began on an airport which would serve Port Hueneme and nearby communities until it was closed by Federal Aviation Administration regulation in 1973 citing safety concerns related to then-new airports being built throughout Southern California at that timeadeveloping world trade patterns that call for smaller airports near major towns like Los Angeles and San Francisco instead of larger ones closer to points of entry into those cities. A new airport opened west of downtown in 1984 which remains today called Airport Boulevard but now serves primarily commercial aviation with no passenger service available; this decision has been criticized by some who argue that more than half a century later Airports Boulevard still doesn't provide enough amenities such as retail or dining opportunities for civilians living adjacent to its busy airspace

Port Hueneme, California is a small town in Calfornia. The population was 5,970 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Francisco Peninsula and shares borders with Monterey County to the south, San Mateo County to the north, and Santa Cruz County to the east. The first Europeans to explore and settle in what is now Port Hueneme were Franciscan missionaries who arrived in 1777. They built a mission here which served as a center for missionary work in southern California. In 1836, Commodore John D. Sloat established Ulysses S. Grant's naval base at this site on Isla del Rey (Island of Hope). The town grew rapidly around Grant's naval station, and by 1850 it had outgrown its inadequate facilities. In 1851, Port Hueneme became an incorporated city under state law. The heyday of Port Hueneme came during World War II when many American service members stationed here worked on shipyards or construction sites throughout California Naval Shipyard at nearby Half Moon Bay. At its peak, the city produced over one million pieces of military equipment including ships, missiles and other weapons systems used during World War II Today much of what once thrived within the limits of our current city has been replaced by sprawling suburbs that extend well beyond those boundaries into Monterey Peninsula communities such as Pebble Beach and Pacifica
In 1847, the first post office in Port Hueneme was established. The town was named after Captain John Hueneme, a captain in the California Gold Rush who had died in 1846. In 1852, the port was settled by English immigrants and it became an agricultural center with fruit orchards and dairy farms. In 1916, Port Hueneme became a city and on July 1, 1958 it merged with Camarillo to form the City of Ventura.
