The Porterville Army Reserve Armory is a museum located in Porterville, California that preserves the history of the military deployment gift history in the city. The armory was built in 1926 and is one of the oldest museums in Porterville. It has a collection of over 1,000 pieces of military equipment and memorabilia from both World War I and World War II. The armory was originally used as a munitions depot during World War I. During World War II, it served as an army reservearmory for local troops. In 1951, it became part of the city government and was renamed the City Museum Annex. In 1984, it was acquired by the Porterville Historical Society and became a museum again. The armory is open to the public from 9am to 4pm Monday through Saturday and 12pm to 4pm on Sundays. Admission is free for everyone except staff members who must purchase tickets at least two days in advance. One of the most popular attractions at the armory are its displays of military equipment from both world wars. These displays include tanks, planes, artillery pieces, boats, and even a few GI's uniforms! One exhibit even includes a replica of an American-made T-62 tank! There are also several displays dedicated to localities which were either involved or affected by WWI or WWII (e.g., Battlefields No Man's Land). There are also several exhibitsfeaturing local art such as paintings, sculptures, pottery etc.. Another popular attraction at the armory is its collection of postcards related to military deployments throughout California during WWI/WWII including Porterville (1915), Atascadero (1918), Yuba City (1921), Dixon (1924), Shasta County (1927) etc.. Many postcards show photos taken while deployed overseas such as Japan 1918 where people can see Mount Fuji from inside an airplane! There are also several postcards from Porterville during WWII including Christmas Cards 1942 which shows Mayor Niehaus giving candy trees away to children on Christmas Eve!

The regiment was mustered into service on October 16, 1863, at Porterville, California. The regiment fought in the Battle of Fort Donelson on December 3,1863, and the Battle of Shiloh on April 6,1864. The regiment was honorably discharged from service on July 9, 1865.
Porterville is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. Porterville is the home of the Kern County Fairgrounds and the Porterville High School District. The first settler in Porterville was George Washington Carden who arrived in 1847. He built a cabin on his farmstead which he named "Carden Hill". In 1853, General John C. Fremont visited Carden and offered him land for a settlement if he would help build a road from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Carden agreed and began construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad through Kern County. When it opened in 1869, Porterville became one of its many communities along its route. In 1909, Packed earth mining began operations near Porterville after years of effort by local activists led by Mayor Wm Epps with funding from Hollywood businessman Harry Belafonte and others interested in extracting coal resources near their homes. A large tunnel was bored beneath downtown to reach the mines; but because of environmental concerns about acid mine drainage created as result of excavation, it stopped production in 1915 when federal regulations changed and new rules forbade such operations within 500 feet (150 m) of schools or other public places. Coal dust particles emitted from the tunnels still cause health problems today as well as damage to buildings centuries later! However, during World War II aluminum production increased due to allied air raids on nearby cities such as Berkeley and Los Angeles; Aluminum industry workers needed housing close to their jobs so they built what are now known as Porter Village developments around Arsenal Technical High School (now known as Alameda High school). In 1948, plant manager Art Hargrave designed an all-weather agricultural complex serving 3 townships: Northfield (later renamed Shasta), Easton (later renamed Redding), and Enterprise (later renamed Dominguez Hills)). This included 2Dad's grocery store/civic center/conference hall/laboratory/pool hall/theater/, churches - First Presbyterian Church & Holy Angels Latin American Catholic Church (), Elks Lodge #2A | Masonic Lodge #1A | Temple Beth Israel Hebrew Congregation () also schools - Kaiser Middle School (& addition), Western Branch Junior College (), Stroudsburg Area Senior High School (). Today these properties are part of Rite Aid Alliant International Incorporated (); former Monsanto Companyland Headquarters building serves now OfficeMax Retail stores
