Porterville is a small town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 3,591 at the 2010 census. Porterville is located on the east side of the San Gabriel Mountains and is bordered by Riverside to the north, Jurupa Valley to the west, and Imperial Valley to the south. Since its incorporation as a town in 1866, Porterville has been an agricultural center with crops such as cotton, grapes, olives, and strawberries grown. The area now known as Porterville was first inhabited by Native Americans who lived near present-day Cathedral City. In 1826 Mexican soldiers were stationed at what is now Porterville when they discovered a mineral deposit worth $10 million which would later be developed into Rancho Palos Verdes (now part of Riverside). A year later oil was found in nearby Kern County and development began around this resource. By 1872 over 100 businesses had been established in Porterville with industries including flour mills, lumberyards, wagon factories, livery stables and more. In 1886 President Grover Cleveland visited Porterville while on his way to visit Stockton during his final term in office and announced that he would be inaugurated next month in Los Angeles so tourneyeer George Washington Crain offered him a place to stay for one night before he departed for his inauguration trip that evening At first it was only men who could vote but women soon joined the male citizens of Porterville through local suffrage organizations such as Women’s National Democratic Club (WNDC) or “The Ladies” club who met monthly from 1865 until women gained full voting rights via Proposition 8 in 1978. From 1910-1920 there were three mayors; Elisha Brown Hope (1910-1912), John Denny Peake (1920-1922), and Everett Witherspoon (1924-1928). Post World War II growth included new housing developments such as Crestwood Village subdivision built between 1950-1960 which became home to many top celebrities such as Jay Leno(1970-)and David Letterman(1975-) In 1969 Don Wadsworth became Mayor after winning election against incumbent Mayor Walter Horton with 67% of the vote As America transitioned into an information economy post 9/11 more residents turned their backs on traditional farming practices preferring instead suburban lifestyles distant from natural resources like waterfalls or mountainsides where timber stands once thrived along riverside canals used for irrigation today providing water not just for homes but also factories making everything from air conditioners to traffic lights

Porterville is a small city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 8,653 at the 2010 census. Porterville is located on the east side of the San Joaquin River, about south of Stockton and north of Fresno. It is bordered by Dixon to the northwest and east, Eastin to the southeast and west, and Arroyo Grande to the northwest. The first European settlers in Porterville wereaos soldiers in 1847 who were looking for a new home after their unit was disbanded at end of war with Mexico. They founded what became known as Fort Porterville after General James K. Polk visited their camp site that winter while on his way to build El Norte (the northern border of California). A decade later in 1859 they founded Colusa County which included present-day Porterville. In 1871 when California became an state, Porterville became part of Inyo County because it was one of three counties chosen for inclusion therein from among nine total proposed by Governor John Goodwin Gorman. After some debate over whether or not to include towns on both sides of the river – including Cottonwood Heights (later Arroyo Grande) on the upstream side and Dixon on the downstream side – Gorman approved its inclusion on July 1st 1870 despite objections from eastern county boosters led by George Fenton Keyes Sr., owner/operator of Fenton’s groceries store at 4th and Market Streets in downtown Dixon. The settlement had a population of just twelve people when it incorporated two years earlier but soon reached twenty-five residents per square mile due to arrivals from surrounding rural communities drawn by available land grants, cheap labor opportunities offered by railroads expanding intoSan Joaquin County during this time period, easier access to water supplies via irrigation projects authorized under state legislation enacted during President Ulysses S Grant’s “Gilded Age” presidency (1869-1879),and easy access to markets for agricultural goods brought overland through nearby Sacramento Valley settlements such as Auburn and No Spawning Place Creek near Visalia

In 1870, Porterville became a town charter and began to receive mail from other California towns. In 1883, the city of Porterville incorporated as a municipality. The city continued to grow until the early 1920s when it had only 6 residents. In 1925, the City Council passed an ordinance establishing maximum population limits for cities in California at 25,000 people per square mile. By 1978, the population of Porterville had declined to 14 residents and its size had shrunk again until it reached its current limit of 10 residents in 2000
