Poway is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 83,907 at the 2010 census. Poway was founded on December 6, 1911 by Will Rogers and his wife Alma Crawford as an agricultural community on the edge of the then unincorporated municipality of Encinitas. It became a city on November 3, 1923. The first coffee shop in Poway opened in 1924. In 1951, Harry Selvin opened the first retail store in Poway selling baked goods and groceries from his truck parked near the town square. At that time, Poway had only one school and no hospital or doctor. In 1978, Joe Musso opened Musso's Coffee House which became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Poway with its wide variety of Italian-American espresso drinks and pastries made fresh daily at their original location on Main Street (now downtown). "Joe" Musso passed away in 2003 but his legacy lives on with many local residents who still visit his business for refreshments everyday during daylight hours!

Poway is located on the Pacific Coast of San Diego County and is bordered by Carlsbad to the east, La Jolla to the west and Rancho Bernardo to the north. The name "Poway" is thought to be derived from an Ohlone word meaning "place of many Turtles". Poway was incorporated as a town in 1887. It became a city in 1959. The largest shopping center in Southern California is located in Poway. The area now known as Poway was first populated by Tongva people who lived along what are now Interstate 10 andrational Avenue. A Mission station, known as Mission San José de Guadalupe y Costilla, was built here about 1750 by Franciscan missionaries under Spanish rule. In 1821 local landowner Antonio Delgado donated land for a new mission near where modern-day Airport Road intersects I-10. The friars named it Nuestra Señora del Rosario after Immaculate Conception (the patron saint of San Diego). After years of construction and delays due to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, the church actually opened on October 1st, 1825 under construction site that still stands today just south of present-day City Hall Drive & Kingsbury Ave., next door to then-San Miguel Elementary School (now Cabrillo Middle School). This "new" mission survived until 1830 when it burned down during a major earthquake which destroyed much of downtown San Diego then also damaged most or all of Nuestra Señora del Rosario Church including its steeple which still towers above King'sbury Ave today! For many years thereafter there were numerous stories about how somebody managed to save part or all of this iconic old mission including claims that it hauled log cabins inside for insulation during wintertime! Eventually some enterprising individual(s) did manage finally bring both parts back together again around 1840/1850 but even this rather small piece had become enough attraction for founders Francisco Vásquez & Manuel Valeriano (mayor at the time)to start plans for what would eventually become our namesake city! On September 20th 1860 nearly one million Mexican Americanesteaders came ashore across America through Tijuana into Mexico primarily looking for land grants but they too failed to find anything like they had hoped so they turned their attention inland instead towards advancing Southeastern California... ultimately leading directly here via El Centro!! By 1870 several missions were operating here including St Elizabeth's College - founded by Catholic clergyman Revd Father Hidalgo with instruction from Mexican President Melchor Díaz on January 6th 1865!!! At this point Gadsden Purchase Rd had been completed connecting Los Angeles with Imperial Valley via Baja California but no development occurred until 1886 when Capt’n John Copley purchased 5 square miles adjoining Penal Colony Rd between Ramona & Poway Canyon from Juan Bautista Alvarado Governador General et al.. naming it Gadsden Purchase Rancho livestock grazing area after his old friend and mine owner… later Ulysses S Grant leased this area from Capt’n Copley beginning June 9th 1887 shortly before he became President!! On January 16th 1888 Peralta married Mina Chávez y Ortega Hereford at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Parish Church Feet Of Jesus Chapel while living at Gadsden Purchase Rancho House originally operated by Don Pedro Peralta himself adjacent presidio walls where present day Qualcomm Stadium stands today! Today we enjoy unobstructed views of Downtown Los Angeles Harbor [and] Ensenada Bay from our home park acres

Poway is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 67,827 at the 2010 census. Poway's nickname "The City of Roses" comes from its many red roses that are found near the downtown area. Poway has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 2,000 years and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on American soil. It was first known as Mission San José de Arriba and then as Rancho Niguel Mexican land grant to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1821. Founded by Spanish Conquistadors on February 14, 1769 as part of Rancho Los Nietos del Vallejo (later part of Rancho San Diego), Poway became an English settlement under Governor Manuel Nieto in 1776. The town was named after Captain John Smith who explored the area during his expedition led by Gaspar de Portolá in 1769-70. After Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, it reorganized itself as a municipality and changed its name to Poway on November 10th, 1828 with a population of 7 residents. On January 1st 1853, the US acquired title to all Mexican land holdings east of San Bernardino Mountain including present-day Poway except for parts within what is now Riverside County; this acquisition made Poway an incorporated city subject to US jurisdiction regardless of county boundaries
Poway is located on the border of Baja California and Sonoma County, in northwestern San Francisco Bay. It was first settled by Native Americans in the mid-19th century as part of Rancho Niños de la casa Blanca, which belonged to wealthy landowner Manuel Nieto. The rancho was later divided into several parcels, and Poway's current location was claimed by both San Francisco and Baja California. In 1853, the United States acquired Rancho Niños de la casa Blanca from Manuel Nieto for $20,000. The U.S. built a military post here called Fort Point at Poway Creek to prevent Mexican smugglers from sailing up the creek to bring goods into Mexico. A year later, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered the construction of a naval air station at Moffett Field in San Francisco Bay in order to provide strategic bombers against Japan during World War II. The air station was completed in 1943 and became known as Naval Air Station Midway Island after its primary runway became an airstrip used by Navy jets during that war.
