The Constitution was docked at Havana, Cuba on December 12, 1797 and began disembarking troops that same day. It took until January 4, 1800 for the Constitution to reach its destination in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where it participated in an amphibious assault against Spanish forces.

Poway was founded in 1887 by the brothers John and Arthur Poway. The town was named after General Edward P. Kearny, who had won a victory at Battle of Vallejo in 1856. In 1902, the Poways ranched land on which Poway now stands and built a public school and dispensary. In 1906, the town became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 350. It annexed numerous villages over time including North Park (1914), Coyote Flat (1920), Willowbrook (1925), and San Miguel Valley (1945).
