When the United States Air Force deployed its 1st Generation Tactical Airlift Squadron in Rancho Cordova, California in 1992, it was a major event. The squadron transported supplies and personnel to locations all over the country. Today, 1st TAS is still a valuable part of the USAF’s airlift effort. The squadron first arrived in Rancho Cordova on November 2, 1992. It was initially stationed at RAAF Base Eastwood before moving to RAAF Base Northridge in 1993. From there it flew cargo and passengers to various locations around the country until its disbandment in 1996. Today, 1st TAS continues its important role as an airlift asset for the USAF. It provides essential support to both combat operations and homeland security missions. In addition, it has been instrumental in providing manyunits with necessary equipment and training.

On May 6, 1944, the United States Air Force launched its first gift history program in Rancho Cordova, California. The program was called the "Rancho Cordova Wingmen." The Wingmen were a group of air force officers who gave away gifts to local residents. The goals of the Wingmen program were to promote good will and relationships among service members and civilians. The wingman program ended in 1946 but the concept live on to this day in the form of air force donated toys, donations and special events.
Rancho Cordova, California is a town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 32,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area. The name "Cordova" comes from Rancho Cucamonga de la Sierra which was granted in 1847 to José Alvira Peralta and his wife María Luisa Hidalgo by General Antonio López Molina. The first post office in Rancho Cordova was established on November 1, 1851, and was called Rancho del Norte. On May 15, 1861, it became a town when it was platted as such by J.B. Hinkle and Wm Burtz with land grants from the Mexican government. The town received its charter from the State of California on December 12 of that year. In 1876-77 two brothers named George Atherton started an agricultural cooperative known as Atherton & Company which grew into one of the largest cotton farmers in California before becoming defunct during the Great Depression years. In 1896 Pioneer Cotton Growers Association organized to promote cotton production along irrigation canals in southeastern San Bernardino County; however there were no significant results until 1907 when Atherton donated some land for a new cotton gin and distillery near present day Cathedral City On October 4th 1898 Manuel Miranda erected a monument to commemorate Californio pioneer Taguba Minter who had died four days earlier while accompanying General John Pershing's expedition through southern Mexico on their way to Hollywood Boulevard

Rancho Cordova, California (formerly Rancho Cucamonga) is a town in Los Angeles County, California. It was platted in 1887 and became a city on July 15, 1911. The population was 105,521 at the 2010 census. Rancho Cordova is located in the southern portion of Los Angeles County and is east of Encino. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Rancho Cordova were members of the Bakersfield Battalion who arrived from Bakersfield, California on October 14, 1873. They were led by Captain George A. Smith and consisted of twelve men including John Sutter who founded Sutter's Fort at present day North Hollywood. William Waddell also participated with the battalion during its stay here before moving westward across the state line to found Waco Texas on February 17th, 1874. In 1887 Nathaniel Purdy purchased 2,000 acres (8 km2) northeast of today's town center for $1 million from brothers Elias and Ferdinand Chavez which included what are now parts of Santa Monica and Westwood Avenues as well as areas now within Echo Park Lake and Downtown Los Angeles
Rancho Cordova was founded in 1847 by Santiago and Marcela Cordova. The area now known as Rancho Cordova was part of the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, which served as a Mexican fur trading post from 1797 to 1821. In 1834, general Antonio López de Santa Anna made an attempt to retake Mexico City from Spanish forces and invaded California. He pillaged the mission and its environs, but upon learning of this activity, the cordovans decided to build a fortified settlement in their newly acquired land. The first house on the site was built in 1837. By 1840, there were ten houses here. In 1850, General Manuel Micheltorena ordered all male residents of Mission San Gabriel Arcángel to leave for fear that they would resist his annexation of California. Velasco García purchased some of the missions’ land and donated it to the state government in 1862; Rancho Cordova became part of the new county of Los Angeles County.
