The United StatesArmy deployed gift history in Rancho Cordova, California during the Vietnam War. The deployment began on December 17, 1967 and ended on April 8, 1968. It was the first time that a U.S. Army detachment had ever deployed to Southeast Asia. The detachment was commanded by Major General James Moseley and consisted of 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Blue), 9th Infantry Regiment (Airmobile), 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines and 1st Squadron/5th Cavalry Regiment (Majestic). The gift history deployment was in support of Operation Gridlock I which was an effort to stop the flow of refugees north from Laos into South Vietnam. The detachment's primary purpose was to provide Gifts for Soldiers program which allowed soldiers from all branches of the military to purchase items for their families back home. In addition to purchasing items for their families, the detachments also donated food, clothes and other supplies to local organizations such as Families for Freedom which collected unwanted weapons from soldiers barracks. Rancho Cordova, California is a census-designated place in San Diego County, California. The population was 113 at the 2010 census. It is located on the edge of 860 acres (361 ha) of rolling hills and desert wasteland bordering the city of San Diego. The name "Cordova" comes from Rancho Cucamonga which was founded in 1836 by Juan Bautista Cordova and his wife María Eugenia de la Hoz. The land for Rancho Cordova was granted to Juan Bautista Cordova and his brother, Pio Pérez, in 1847. The first post office at Rancho Cordova opened in 1850. In 1882, J.P. Morgan bought 640 acres (250 ha) of this land from Wm Sutter for $1 million dollars ($10 million today). He named it cordOVA ranch after himself and built a large mansion there called "Morgan's Castle". In 1915 he donated another 640 acres (250 ha), now part of the University Park neighborhood in San Diego, to San Diego State University as an endowment for that institution's new school of agriculture and forestry research center which he had started with money he had acquired during World War I as a representative of American Vining Tobacco Company Limited. In 1923 President Warren G Harding announced that the National Radio Corporation would build an experimental station at Camp Pendleton on Point Loma near North Coast Highway 726 about 5 miles northeast of Rancho Cordova on what became known as NRACampUS or Naval Radio Station USN Channel 2 . This allowed commercial broadcasting within America beginning on October 14th 1927 from NRACampUS with callsign WWVZ (now KNXV-TV). On February 10th 1944 Japanese forces destroyed most of NRACampUS by bombing with incendiary bombs all but one building including Morgan's Castle which collapsed into its ownombs resulting in the death of 43 people including Jp Morgan and 4 members of his family80 years later! That day also marked Japan's surrender!!! subsequently Camp Pendleton became El Centro USA!!! Incredibly this event occurred only days after Japanese Emperor Hirohito made an address announcingJapan's unconditional surrender!!!!!!!!!!!!!
