First Coffee & Cafe operation grew to include five locations before closing its doors for good in 1925. The townsite sat on a valley formed by the San Andreas Fault and its escarpment. Farming wool, cattle, and grapes were the primary activities of early settlers. Vineyards were established in the area in the late 1800s, but production ceased during Prohibition. A post office called Rancho Cordova was established in 1881, and remained in operation until it closed in 1945. The town of Cordova annexed neighboring unincorporated areas during World War II; however, no residents chose to move to the newly developed community.
