Rancho Cordova, California is a small community located in Southern California. The population was 5,384 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Gabriel Valley and has a rich history dating back to 1871. Rancho Cordova was named for General John C. Fremont who led an expedition through this region in 1847. The community began to form around 1886 when two families bought land east of Camino de la Cruz which they called "The Rancho". In 1912, the town had a post office and three stores. By 1925, the population had grown to 12 residents and ten businesses. In 1933, the first school opened in Rancho Cordova with twelve students. A second school was built in 1937 and a third in 1941. The community experienced some growth during World War II as people worked on Iwo Jima and other military sites nearby. After the war, rancho cordova started to decline until it regained its former prominence during the 1970s when new subdivisions were developed along Camino de la Cruz and other roads

Rancho Cordova was founded in 1847 by José Gabriel García Márquez and his wife, Marcela. It is located on the edge of the Santa Cruz Mountains in southern California. The rancho was purchased by García Márquez's father-in-law, Manuel Garza, in 1851. There are now over a hundred thousand acres of land at Rancho Cordova. The rancho played an important role in Mexican history. It was where Miguel Hidalgo fought against Spanish colonial forces in1846 and where Francisco Villa resided during the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1912. In 1927, Rancho Cordova became part of the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Since its establishment, Rancho Cordova has been home to many notable people including José Garcias son Don Andres; ranchers Ted Hughes and Winona Ryder; actresses Marilyn Monroe and Cybill Shepherd; and author Ernest Hemingway.
Rancho Cordova was an agricultural and ranching community in southern California. It was located on the eastern edge of San Bernardino County, east of Riverside County and north of Los Angeles County. Rancho Cordova began as a small ranch called Rancho de las Pulgas, named after the burrowing vipers that used to live there. The first European to arrive in what is now Rancho Cordova was Spanish Captain Vicente Narvaez on July 14, 1776. The area that is now Rancho Cordova was part of Alta California under Mexican rule until 1848 when it became part of United States territory following the Mexican-American War. The town of La Crescenta moved from its original location near Topanga Canyon south to become one of the townsites at Rancho Cordova. In 1887, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort at present-day downtown La Crescenta, which served as a military post for many years before becoming a general store and movie theater complex known today as Sutter's Fort Park. In 1902, James Irvine established Irvine Pixar Animation Studios in nearby Emeryville; Pixar would later move into Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank. In 1916, ranchers Rudolph Wirths and Edward Crippen organized the first state fair at what is now Big Bear Lake Drive in La Crescenta; this event marked the beginning of Northern California's agricultural boom period. At their 1915 fair, Wirths and Crippen also donated land for what would become City Hall Park., which still stands today across Big Bear Lake from whereEarly 20th century businesses once operated including Grocery Outlet #2 (now Macy's), hardware store #1 (now Home Depot), post office #2 (now Wells Fargo Bank) and several hotels including Hotel Mondrian (later Marriott). Many city residents worked on large farms near by such as Wirths' Sonoma Valley Farm which produced barley, hay or other farm products for local markets; another major producer during this time was Dan McAllister who raised cattle for various market prices throughout Southern California
