They named their new community "Rancho Cucamonga" after their home town in Spain where they had been born and raised.valley center grew rapidly due to its location minutes away from both Southern Pacific Railroad tracks that connected Los Angeles to San Francisco Bay Area markets and also because the area had plenty of water resources which allowed for agriculture to be developed beginning early on in the history of this landbase It wasn't until 1912 when Rancho Cucamonga became an incorporated town when it joined forces with neighboring towns Riverside and Ontario (now Ontario) On December 15, 1936 Rancho Cucamonga became a City following incorporation by vote of residents

The campus grew rapidly with new buildings being constructed on what had been farmland. By 1932, much of the land around campus had been developed into neighborhoods such as North Berkeley and South Berkeley. After World War II ended, many institutions left UC Berkeley or were bought out by larger universities. However, the university continued to grow and its influence grew throughout Northern California with programs such as Earth Science (1948), Business Administration (1962), Law (1968), Economics (1980) and Health Sciences (1991). In 2001, UC Irvine joined UC Berkeley as an associate member based on their shared commitment to social justice through their academic programs and community engagement initiatives. Today there are more than 60 colleges/universities across eight states located on two campuses in Silicon Valley with a combined student body of more than 93,000 students from 46 countries!
In 1879, Rancho Cucamonga was acquired by the United States government for $1,000. The land had been used as a military reservation since the Mexican-American War of 1846. In 1881, it was renamed to Rancho Cucamonga after its owners, José and María Cucamonga. The ranch house that is now located at 5500 East Coyote Hills Rd., was built in 1907.
