Some remaining haciendas are still run as ranches today with cell phone service, electricity, running water, horses and cows allowed etc., but most now have subdivisions with homesites for sale only; however there are still many miles of open country available for grazing cattle or sheep. In 1912 an incorporated community known as Prospect Heights sprang up near where present-day Route 66 meets Highway 95 south of downtown Rancho Cucamonga; this community eventually prospered due to its proximity to transportation terminals served by the Southern Pacific Railroad which did not build a stop in Rancho Cucamonga until 1925 when it relocated its tracks northward from Bakersfield through Claremont into what is now Metrolink Station #2 outside of Chico (now Orange) County. A post office called Prospect Heights opened on October 12, 1912 and remained in operation until November 1, 1951. The community name may derive from prospecting for gold near nearby Mount Whitney National Park; however no gold has been found here since 1912 . After leaving prospecting behind him during World War I Captain Harry Swayne founded Swayne & Sons Lumber Company on February 17, 1920 which became one of Southern California's largest lumber companies before merging with Western Logging Company in 1994 theretofore unmentioned .
