The rancho Mirage Army Reserve Center, founded in 1941, has been home to the Rancho Mirage National Guard since 1942. The center was opened as a military training ground for men and women who were World War II veterans or reservists from other parts of California. It served as a barracks and armory until 1955, when it became the home of the Rancho Mirage National Guard Museum. In 1959, the Department of Defense began distributing surplus equipment to civilian organizations throughout California. The Rancho Mirage National Guard was one of these organizations. In order to receive this equipment, the National Guard had to agree to certain terms and conditions. These conditions included having their facilities used only for military purposes and not being used by civilians for any other purpose. In 1966, the National Guardsmen who were stationed at Camp Goodwin surrendered without a fight after learning that they would be moved to another camp in Riverside County if they did not surrender. This event is known as "The Goodnights". The center saw its most significant use during the Vietnam War when it served as an ammunition depot. From 1971-1975, it also served as an American Embassy annex in Saigon before finally becoming available for civilian use again in 1978. In 1990-1991, it underwent $8 million worth of renovations which added new exhibits and classrooms on both levels as well as a library on site. today's main level features two stories with underground parking for up to 100 vehicles and an observation deck overlooking Interstate 5 outside of town

The United States Army Garrison Rancho Mirage was established in 1903 as the first American military installation in Southern California. It served as a garrison for troops stationed at Fort Huachuca and later at Camp Pendleton. The garrison was disbanded in 1945 and its assets were transferred to the newly created U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. In 1949, the academy leased the former garrison building and began operations as an infantry unit training young officers for commissioned service with the U.S. Army. Withdrawn from active duty in 1952, rancho MirageArmyGarrison closed its doors in 1957 but reopened as a tourist attraction two years later under new management by The Guggenheim Group Incorporated of New York City.
Rancho Mirage is a small town in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. It is located about an hour east of Los Angeles and about two hours south of San Bernardino. The community was founded in 1912 by Mexican Americans who had relocated from nearby Palm Springs. The town has a population of fewer than 1,000 people and is home to four businesses: a library, post office, dry goods store, and restaurant. It also has one public school that serves grades PK-8. Rancho Mirage was first settled primarily by Mexicans who were escaping poverty in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. In 1912, these immigrants organized themselves into a group known as the Ranchos de la Mesa (ranches of the Mesa). The name derived from their location on Mesa Verde National Monument which overlooks Lake Mojave. In 1926, members of the Rancho Mirage Citizens Council decided to change the name to Rancho Mirage after they became convinced that it would be more popular with residents if they used a local variation instead of trying to appeal to all sections of society simultaneously. The community experienced significant growth during World War II when many American servicemen came through town for combat duty or for spending time at Camp Atterbury near Indio. Business boomed as soldiers bought everything from gasoline to food items before returning home. A high school was opened in 1945 and has been operated by charter schools ever since. In 1951, construction began on what is now the Community Center which served as both social and economic center for the town until it burned down in 1984. A new Community Center was built in 2002 and still serves as its main function today; providing cultural programs such as art exhibits, music concerts, dances, etc., as well as serving as an educational resource for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade statewide .

Rancho Mirage, California is a small town located in Riverside County, California. It was founded in 1907 by Heneda and Manuel Miranda as Rancho Mirage Park. The original rancho was only 8 square miles in size and it included a number of outlying parcels which were later developed into other townships, including West Valley City and Moreno Valley. The town grew rapidly during the 1920s due to the influx of farmers from Southern California who had taken up land near Palm Springs. In 1926, Rancho Mirage became an incorporated city with a population of just over 500 residents. By 1933, the population had increased to 1,500 and by 1948 it had reached 4,000. The rapid growth of Rancho Mirage led to its incorporation as a state-chartered city on November 3rd, 1949. During the early years of his presidency, Franklin D. Roosevelt called Rancho Mirage "the most beautiful place I've ever been." The natural beauty of the area attracted many people who wanted to live close to nature while still having access to all that Los Angeles had to offer. Today, Rancho Mirage is known for its relaxed pace and its friendly community spirit which remains unchanged despite decades of growth and change.
