Rancho Mirage is a city in Palm Springs County, California, United States. The population was 23,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city covers an area of , making it the second-largest city in Palm Springs County after Victorville. The town of Rancho Mirage was founded by Mexicans who arrived in 1848 as ranch hands on what is now known as Fruitvale Avenue. In 1862, John Cranch and his brother George established Jardine Bros., breweries which became one of Southern California's most successful brewing companies. After World War II, many American soldiers stationed here drank Islay whisky from local distilleries before returning home to their families; this led to the nickname "Island City" for Rancho Mirage locals during that time period. The first coffee beans were grown on Rancho Mirage lands in 1902 by José Padilla and Francisco Morales with help from Italian immigrants Angelo Coppola and Luigi Pezzotta. Coffee beans were roasted there until 1903 when a new roasting plant was built in nearby Desert Hot Springs (now Cathedral City). The company name changed to La Colombe Trading Company Ltd., but it reverted back to Jardine Bros./La Colombe Coffee Co., Incorporated on December 3, 1923. In 1951, La Colombe merged with two other coffee companies to form West Coast Roasters (WCR). WCR continued production at its original location until 1992 when it moved out into its current headquarters building at 15th Street and Oracle Parkway east of I-5 near downtown Riverside. At its peak production volume (1978), WCR employed over 1,000 people across four plants located throughout Southern California: Irvine (Los Angeles County), Pasadena ( Pasadena County), San Bernardino (San Bernardino County), and Ontario (Inyo County). Jardine Bros./La Colombe Coffee Co., Incorporated announced plans on February 17, 1998 for a $100 million expansion project that would add 8 acres west of its existing facility along Orange Blossom Road between State Route 91 south of Interstate 5 and State Route 248 north of I-5 in Riverside county – becoming one of the largest single retail coffee projects ever undertaken in North America up until that point! This new development would house 10 buildings totaling 318,000 sq ft including 7 underground parking structures plus an additional 80 surface parking spaces according to some estimates! Construction began on January 12th 1999 under the leadership of then CEO Drago Štefanović with funding provided through various private sector investors led by venture capitalist Marc Lasry; during Phase One construction activity totaled 2 million sq ft while Phase Two progressed at a more modest pace with total work completed consisting only of 6 buildings totaling 110 thousand sq ft! AsPhase Three unfolded we had increased activity reaching our goal amount reached within 4 ½ months!!! Today we are currently working towards completing phase 4 bringing us all up to date with stateoftheart technology including fiber optics printing!! The increase in production also led to a rise in prices which made it difficult for small businesses to keep up with demand. Coffee became an important part of everyday life throughout much of the 20th century until it fell out of favor during the 1970s because of technological advancements such as cassette tapes, CD players, digital cameras etc….. However, recent trends suggest that Coffee may be resurgence again due to advances in technology which could lead to further improvements in quality assurance processes across all types of products including Coffee Brewers
