The name "Rancho Mirage" means "place of wild game." The City of Rancho Mirage was incorporated on December 8, 1911. In 1916, the city annexed part of neighboring Cravath Park to become its own municipality. On November 3, 1922 the City of Riverside merged with Rancho Mirage to form one municipality with a total population of 26,191. In 1951 and 1954 both towns were re-incorporated into one single municipality with their current populations: 27,814 for Rancho Mirage and 25,712 for Riverside. On January 1st 2020, following years of planning and discussion by various entities within the community including Chamber of Commerce President Rick Scuteri and members of both Town Councils - Mayor Donny Gutierrez (RanchoMirage) and Councilmember Diane Letizia (Riverside) - it was voted unanimously by both Town Halls that Rancho Mirage would become an official “City” within our County!
