Rancho Palos Verdes, California is a small town located in southern San Diego County on the Pacific Coast. It was founded in 1892 by John C. Fremont and his family as Rancho Santa Fe de Agua Dulce. With no troops left to garrison the peninsula, Alvarado sold what remained of his rancho to Captain Edward Fenton McKee for $2,500 on November 3, 1912. Captain Fenton McKee donated it to the United States Navy for use as an ammunition depot during World War I. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender, Naval Air Station Miramar was built on part of McKee's original land grant near present-day Garden Grove Avenue and Harbor Drive in 1942. During WWII, Naval Air Station Miramar also hosted radar stations operated by Lockheed Martin Corp., Boeing Co., Raytheon Co., Northrop Grumman Corp., and other manufacturers involved in war production. The station was closed down after the end of hostilities but portions remain used today as open space at Miramar Park adjacent to South Point Marina on El Cajon Boulevard near Harbor Drive
