In 1902, Samuel Colt acquired the rights to produce firearms in California and decided to move production there from Buffalo Arsenal in New York City. On November 2, 1903, Samuel Colt donated nine pistols (eight Colts Model 1873 revolvers and one Model 3) to the University of California at Berkeley for use as "marks of esteem" during its centennial year. These pistols are now displayed at Regent's Park in Berkeley. In 1915-1916, wealthy Los Angeles businessman Harry Anslinger offered $5 million for the acquisition or disposition of all handguns manufactured in America between 1871 and 1914 without any competition being allowed. When World War II broke out in 1939, many gun manufacturers withdrew their products from production because they knew they would be needed for military purposes. Some companies such as Remington Arms Company did not follow this decision; rather they produced weapons under license from other manufacturers while continuing production of their own guns within their own labs. The wartime shortages caused some firearm dealers to start selling civilian versions of military models when supplies became available again after1945; these were usually called "gun parts" or "parts kits." Rancho Palos Verdes is a small agricultural town in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 8,849 at the 2010 census. It nestles on a ridge overlooking San Francisco Bay and is bounded by Interstate 280 to the east and Rancho Santa Fe National Monument to the west. The first Europeans to visit Rancho Palos Verdes were Captain Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo on November 18, 1542, and his party of three Spaniards known as "Los Pescadores". They landed near what is now Rancho Palos Verdes but did not stay long because of dangerous seaside cliffs. In 1795 Spanish real estate developer José Joaquín de Arguelles built a manor house on what are now parts of State Route 1 and US 101 in present-day Rancho Palos Verdes proper. Arguelles named it "Ranchito de las Aguas" (ranch of the waters). By 1836 it had grown too large for the individual landowners to manage so he divided it among his four sons. One part became part of American Samoa while two parts were sold to various investors before becoming part of San Mateo County in 1896. In 1922 Hollywood film producer Harry Cohn bought title to 5,000 acres (20 km²) along both coasts between Alameda Point and Englishman's Beach from sugar Refiner John Doudnyk for $1 million; he renamed it Hollywood Park after himself and developed it into one of southern California's most famous neighborhoods. In 1949 Cohn sold all rights back to Doudnyk for $2 million plus interest - making Hollywood Parkollywood again an unincorporated community within Los Angeles County with its own government until 1974 when it was made subject to city zoning laws which limits development opportunities within its boundaries

Rancho Palos Verdes, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 25,711 at the 2010 census. Rancho Palos Verdes was founded in 1887 by H.L. Price and his wife, Emma Price. It became a city on February 14, 1957. The original town site was located about one mile east of present-day Rancho Palos Verdes Boulevard on what is now the eastern edge of the City of Industry. The first settlers in Rancho Palos Verdes were Hilario de la Vega and Antonio Reyros. In 1887, Price and his wife Emma purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) from José María Morelos for $5 per acre (1 hectare). They named their new land "RanchoPalosVerdes". The price for the land had been raised to $10 per acre (2 hectares) by early 1888 because there were only two other parcels near where they wanted to set up camp: One owned by Gov't Major General Manuel Micheletti and another owned by José Gomez y Costilla who lived on the ridge above them Both tracts had been ceded to Mexico as part of the Cahuenga Purchase in 1846 which also included much of Los Angeles County. Price built an adobe home onsite that served as their headquarters until he moved out in 1886 when he started ranching with partner John Sutter along what is now Hidden Valley Road (). After years of hard work they added 10 more adobe homes over time including 8 eventually used as hospital buildings during World War II () . By 1925 there were 204 residents living within miles (322 kilometers) of downtown San Bernardino (). In addition to housing needs for soldiers stationed nearby during World War II (), other purposes such as commercial development or agricultural production were considered but never realized due to lack of financial support (). However, some sites saw later industrial activity such as turbine blades being made at nearby Pahrump Air Force Base before it closed down in 2001 (). All told these developments spawned over 1,000 jobs across various sectors includingadministrative and professional employees; scientists; engineers; farmers; construction workers; manufacturing workers(); service sector employers (); artists (); retailers (); and others without realizing it all until today! During its formative years Rancho Palos Verdes experienced multiple expansions with a total area increased from just under 2 square miles (.8 km²) in 1890 to 9 square miles (.39 km²) by 1912 combined with annexations from neighboring townships Garden Grove and Simi Valley (). Finally after annexation efforts failed paying off investors decided to sell off their holdings resulting in a decrease usage degree map size from 12 square miles (.49 km²) to 4square miles (.16 km²), while reducing infrastructure footprint overall (-9%), but still providing services like water supply (+1%)
Rancho Palos Verdes was a land grant given to José María Cabeza de Vaca by Governor Manuel Michelin in 1821. The rancho was located on the eastern edge of present-day Palos Verdes Peninsula, and extended from what is now the western border of San Marino County to include what is now Orange County. In 1847, Rancho Palos Verdes became part of the United States as part of the Mexican Cession.
