However, due to Johns prior actions which put them both at risk, he received probation instead of prison time which allowed him to keep his shotguns for hunting purposes only! In 1911John Wesson also purchased his second handgun- this time it would be used in defense against what turned out to be an angry neighbor who refused to leave his property without getting permits from both sides! Unfortunately for Mr. Wesson, this neighbor would become one of Californias most infamous murderers- Jack Ruby !

Rancho Palos Verdes was founded in 1877 by brothers Lorenzo and Jaime Palos. The Palos were land speculators who purchased a swath of Rancho Santa Fe from Juan Bautista Alvarado. They named their land Rancho Palos Verdes because they saw the possibility of growing wine grapes there. In 1889, the brothers joined forces with their father, Francisco Palos, to buy more land and establish a vineyard. The ranch continued to grow and by 1916 had become one of California's largest wineries. In 1924, the family sold its holdings to Jerald Weisbrod, founder of Castle Rock Winery in Sonoma County.
