Rancho Palos Verdes, California was a popular place to grow coffee in the 1800s. The land was first cultivated by Spanish colonists in the 1780s and it continued to be used for coffee until the early 1900s. In 1892, Rancho Palos Verdes became part of Los Angeles County and coffee production began in earnest. The early roasters included José de la Rosa, Antonio Perez, Manuel Vázquez Mota, Santiago Boggio and others. In 1926, Julius Caesar Roasting Company opened its doors in Rancho Palos Verdes and continues to produce high-quality beans today. During the late 1800s and into the1900s, there were two main types of coffee: French roast (or dark) beans from Mexico and Sumatra beans from Indonesia. Mexican roasted beans were typically more expensive than Indonesian or Sumatra-roasted beans because they were sourced from country's with lower quality soils. In 1912, San Francisco businessman Harry Fenton founded what is now called Fenton Coffee Roasters with his brother Edwin Fenton. They purchased some old Juan Valdez Coffee plantations near Blythewood in Ventura County and started growing Columbian Arabica Beans which are noted for their higher quality than other types of coffee. From these origins, many famous roasters such as Peet's Sons Inc., Ruprecht Kustoff AG & Co., ANDY COFFEE LIMITED started their operations worldwide. By 1975 all those coopers had closed down leaving only 13 small family businesses remaining worldwide that still produce world-famous high-quality Kopi Gadingan coffees!

Rancho Palos Verdes coffee is a popular and long-standing roastery in California. The first coffee beans were roasted in 1876 on the site of what is now the Rancho Santa Margarita Estate. In 1916, it was acquired by Mr. Julius Rosenwald, who renamed it Roper Coffee Roasters Incorporated. It remain under that name to this day. The original farmstead was destroyed by fire in 1910 but rebuilt within a few years with new technology and capabilities for roasting more than 1,000 pounds of coffee per hour using an open hearth oven. At its peak production capacity (1925), Roper produced over 5 million pounds of coffee every year! In 1974, Roper purchased Mountain View Coffee Roasters from their founder Lewis Hillman and continued to roast there until 1983 when they closed the shop permanently due to economic times and constraints brought about by World War II. However, their legacy lives on through various cafes across North America including Starbucks which bought that business in 2011.
Rancho Palos Verdes, California is a small town in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 29,545 at the 2010 census. It is located on a small peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and Menlo Park Bay. The first Europeans to visit Rancho Palos Verdes were Spanish Jesuits who established a mission there in 1769. In 1802, Mexican nationals under Governor Manuel Micheltorena founded the Santa Clara Mission Church on nearby Point Reyes Station. From this mission, they derived their name of "Rancho San José", which means "place of St Joseph." In 1846, during theMexican War of Independence, American General Order No. 9 ordered all Mexican nationals living east of Utopia Valley to leave within 24 hours or face execution. A few people chose to stay and fight for Mexico; most chose to flee westward into north-central California where they would found new homes. Only a handful of ranch hands remained behind to defend their property and maintain law and order in what would become known as "the war towns." In 1849, following Mexico's defeat at the Battle of Buena Vista Hill, United States president James K Polk called for an investigation into reports that Mexican forces had looted Utopia Valley and other areas near Mexicali. A group of six Americans formed by Colonel John Cushing arrived in January 1850 with orders from Polk to investigate any possible violations of military law by Mexicans living west of US border. They discovered that many ranch hands had taken up arms against their own government and were fighting for fugitive Mexican general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had fled from Texas after its annexation by the United States weeks earlier. Many cattlemen also sided with Santa Anna against their Anglo owners who feared he might try to take over their businesses if he won control of Mexico proper. A series of punitive raids followed throughout February 1850 in an effortto re-establish order and collect compensation from those whose properties had been damaged or destroyed during these raids as well as punish any local sympathizers with Mexico who continued to live among them without fear thereof (Lopez de Santa Anna himself was still holed up inside Texarkana). By April 10th only about 150 Mexicans remained unaccounted for across western California after Casualty lists showed some 814 persons dead or missing since December 4th when hostilities ceased (not including 259 soldiers killed during Buena Vista Hill). These reprisals were soon discontinued after it was realized that very few cattle could be Milo Chavez’s 507 head counted back in late March 1850 already but resulted in 2 deaths due Toa Baja fever – one man succumbed while out rounding up cattle & another died when his horse shot itself tryingto cross a creek) . The area around today's Rancho Palos Verdes was then part Of Rancho San Miguel Altaipio which later became part Of Tehama County

Rancho Palos Verdes was founded in 1876 by John Sutter. The property, now located in Rancho Santa Fe County, California, had been designated as a ranch for the purpose of providing grazing land for cattle and sheep. In 1860, Sutter and his brother-in-law Don Miguel Baca purchased 8,000 acres of what is now Rancho Santa Fe from Juan Castro. The two men built a small adobe cabin on the site and began to herd and milk cows on their new ranch. In 1875, they persuaded the government to make Rancho Palos Verdes part of Yuma County. In 1903, Don Miguel Baca passed away and left his ranch to his son Jaime who continued to run it until 1946 when it became part of the United States military zone adjacent to Imperial Beach. On September 10th of that year, U.S.Army General James Hurst ordered all civilian residents within 2 miles (3 kilometers)of Naval Air Station Miramar must leave their homes or face forcible evacuation by military personnel pursuant to an order from then-Secretary of War Henry Stimson. More than 12,000 people were forced from their homes during this time period authorities estimated that over 80% of the town's population had fled before its evacuation Order arrived
Rancho Palos Verdes was a Mexican land grant in Sonoma County, California. It was given to José María Morelos y Ocampo in 1839. The name comes from the palos verdes trees which were common on the property at the time.
