Red Bluff, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It is located about 120 miles east of Los Angeles and 100 miles north of Sacramento. The population was 9,793 at the 2010 census. Red Bluff was founded on December 26, 1848 by Captain George Wickersham as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Santa Fe to Yosemite National Park. Wickersham named it for his friend and neighbor, Major James Redding, who had helped him build the road. The first post office opened in Red Bluff on May 5, 1850. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s due to its natural resources: oil wellheads along the Sabine River and goldmining in nearby hills. By 1870, Red Bluff had a school, Methodist Church (1870), Masonic Lodge No. 8 (1871), hotel (1872), store (1873), blacksmith shop (1874), and irrigation ditch (1875). In 1892–93, when Thomas Edison established his Menlo Park laboratory near San Francisco Bay Area Junction Railway Station on Route 494 East in Menlo Park Township off Interstate 580 near Palo Alto Junction Railroad Station, he needed an isolation area for testing his new electric lights and generators so he built two small houses adjacent to his Laboratory - one facing Edison Avenue while another faced West Indian Street - both within minutes' walk of each other across open ground then bounded by Drumm Road which led into Menlo Park Cemetery behind White House Inn; these houses remain standing today as part of Edison Place Historic District #1 southwest of downtown Menlo Park between Cesar Chavez Boulevard (#2) on one side and Harrison Streets NE corner #1 opposite Amtrak Transfer Station across Harrison StreetNE corner #2 east of Interstate 280 northwest boundary line visible from BART trains coming into/ Leaving Menlo Park

Red Bluff is a small town in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east coast of San Francisco Bay and is part of the East Bay Municipal District. The first European to visit Red Bluff was Captain Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 25, 1542. He named it San Miguel de la Barca after Santiago Bautista de Molina who had been shipwrecked there two previous years. On November 3, 1846, American merchant John C. Frémont discovered and explored the Coast Ranges north of Red Bluff when he was exploring for gold in what is now Oregon and California; his party included Lieutenant George Bancroft, who named the range "Frémont's Range". The town began as a landing point for sailors from San Francisco seeking passage to Alta California during itsgold rush days in 1849-1850; but no permanent settlement took place until 1860 when mining commenced on nearby hills and quarries which would form the nucleus of present-day Red Bluff. The townspeople built their first schoolhouse in 1865 and their first post office in 1868 (soon moved to its current site). In 1870s an outbreak of smallpox killed many people in the area so a public health station was established soon afterwards. A local mill closed down around 1915 but reopened some years later as an old-fashioned gristmill powered by water wheels that still operate today as a tourist attraction functioning as a museum due to its historical significance. In 1922 Winton Sayers donated land near downtown for use as an open air movie theater called "The Whitechapel" which operated until 1969 when it burned down; however it still operates as part of the museum complex today with restored machinery originally used to produce films including one showing items from early Hollywood history! In 1935 Reed Smoot became US Senator representing Californias 12th district; he campaigned here against incumbent Augustus Ewing Sr who had represented that district since 1923 while also serving concurrently as US Congressman from Sacramento since 1912 having earlier won election unopposed with over 90% majority! consequentlly Red Bluff saw only one political representative over ensuing decades! From 1945 until 1992 Red Blufeld was within newly created Contra Costa County becoming politically affiliated increasingly with Democratic Party politics throughout that time span despite continuing Republican representation through most all subsequent administrations up until present day...
