The Red Bluff Navy Yard was a navy yard in Red Bluff, California during World War II. It was founded on December 1, 1941 by the United States Navy and the California National Guard as the San Francisco Naval Shipyard. At its peak it produced over 2,000 naval vessels including many of the Navy's attack submarines. The yard closed in 1945 due to budgetary constraints and was transferred to the Coast Guard.
Red Bluff, California is located in the North Central Valley of California. It is bordered by Nevada to the north and east, and Oregon to the south. The population of Red Bluff was 7,362 as of 2010. The name "Red Bluff" comes from two different sources- one from 1849 and one from 1885. In 1849, it was named for an American military officer who had been killed during a Mexican War expedition in what is now Mexico City. He had been posthumously awarded the title of General de la Corte de la Raza (General of Races). By 1885, however, the town had become better known as a goldmining community because its discovery of red gold in 1881 led to rapid growth in the area. The original town site was along Cache Creek where today’s Redding and Placer County are located. Gold was discovered at Rancho San Rafael on February 17th, 1881 by prospectors working for Charles Humble and Jesse Livermore. Soon after this find there were numerous other discoveries including placer gold at Lost Hills and Telegraph Hill. In 1886, James Grafton bought 6 acres near present-day Red Bluff for $2 per acre which he used for farming until his death in 1902. Grafton’s nephew George Dutton then purchased 5 more acres which became what is now downtown Red Bluff. Dutton built his first schoolhouse in 1896 and later added a church and store building (now called the Municipal Building). After leaving downtown RedBluff for good in 1911 due to budget cuts within city government, local entrepreneur Leland Stanford bought 3 blocks northeast of downtown from Grafton’s widow Augusta Maynard Bradley (whose father had founded Bradley & Company mercantile business) with plans to make it into a streetcar stop called “Stanford Center” but never followed through with this plan due to financial difficulties.. In 1918 when Reddy Bros., grocery store owners opened their doors on Main Street across from what is nowSRP Bank after moving out of their old location next door on Second street they helped build what is currently known asDowntown Redmond

It is located on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains and is east of Interstate 5. Red Bluff was founded by Mormon settlers in 1839 as part of what would become known as Utah Territory. After years of struggling against Native American resistance, the Mormons were able to take control of Red Bluff in 1849 and establish their own settlement there. The town quickly became a center for irrigation agriculture and cattle ranching, and its name derived from its location atop a bluffs overlooking Burrard Inlet which served as an important watercourse for the surrounding agricultural areas. In 1906, Red Bluff was chosen as one of two sites to be the site of Los Angeles metropolitan area's first city government. The post-World War II heyday of Red Bluff came about when local industries turned to defense manufacturing such as aircraft parts and munitions production; however, these days it mainly retains its agricultural focus with some light industrial jobs (such as horticulture) that have moved into adjacent communities since 2000. Some notable locals include nationally known author Jules Verne and actor Gary Cooper; both were born in nearby Mojave Desert towns such as Lancaster or Joshua Tree before moving to Red Bluff to continue their studies at USMajors College where they met future wife Lillian Gish and got their start in screenwriting together.
